Job Description

Purpose of Position:

This position is responsible for receiving, processing, and maintaining Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) materials. Responsibilities include maintaining statistics, supervising student employees, and participating in other Collections and Discovery Department projects.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manages the receiving and processing of publications through the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) in accordance with depository guidelines using the SuDocs classification system.
  • Responsible for maintenance of the government documents collection which includes withdrawing and dispersing government documents in accordance with FDLP, ASERL, and University of Kentucky (KY’s regional library) guidelines.
  • Hires, trains, and supervises student employees and coordinates their work for the Collections & Discovery Department.
  • Interprets and complies with federal and state policies and regulations pursuant to depository libraries.
  • Assists users and other library employees in retrieving shelved print documents and virtual resources in the government documents collection.
  • Maintains statistics, surveys, and contact lists.
  • Provides programming and outreach projects related to government documents resources.
  • Participates in training and professional development.
  • Communicates regularly with the U.S. Government Printing Office and vendors to resolve any acquisitions and processing issues with government document resources.
  • Assists Collections and Discovery Staff with short-term tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with one year experience
  • Familiarity with the current US Patent & Trademark Office databases and documents
  • Experience with an integrated library system/library platform system (including circulation module and cataloging)
