Job Description

Librarian directs the library program for Racine Youthful Offender Correctional Facility (RYOCF). Responsibilities include the operation of the institution mobile, video, and law libraries utilizing professional selection and acquisition methods in the development of the library collection, while planning, developing and maintaining the library collection and services according to person-in-our-care (PIOC) needs, interests, and institution programs. This position utilizes computer technology for library procedures and programs; classifies and catalogs library materials using appropriate applications software; and provides library services to PIOC and to staff, such as providing references and information and conducting regular orientation sessions for PIOCs and staff in the use of library materials. In addition, this position provides other library related services, such as participating at the local institution level in the development and implementation of library grant projects; participating in, or providing, in-service training for institution staff; training and supervising library PIOC workers; planning and developing the library budget; recommending and preparing purchase orders for library materials, supplies and equipment.

RYOCF is a medium custody facility for 18-24 year old male offenders.  Racine is in southeastern Wisconsin on the shores of Lake Michigan, approximately 60 miles north of the City of Chicago and 30 miles south of Milwaukee. The city offers a wide range of restaurants, cultural and family attractions, outdoor recreation including Lake Michigan beaches, and world-renowned architecture.
