The Glenwood Springs Historical Society & Frontier Museum in partnership with Garfield County Public Library District needs to procure up to 4,160 hours of archival services, preferably from a graduate student or a high school graduate who is interested in becoming an Archivist. The Glenwood Springs Historical Society & Frontier Museum is located at 1001 Colorado Avenue in historic Glenwood Springs, Colorado.
PROJECT DELIVERABLES
- Inventory and describe the collection using PastPerfect™ with the help of volunteers.
- Complete major projects that are in progress, including inventory and cataloging of the Carlton Hubbard photograph collection; Storm King Mountain collection in time for the 50th anniversary; and Al Maggard, photographer and publisher of the Daily Reminder newspaper.
- Help prioritize the digitization and organization of the collection.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The collection includes photographs, diaries, letters, maps, newspapers, and yearbooks documenting the rich history of Glenwood Springs and Garfield County.
The scope of work includes but is not limited to inventory, cataloging, archival preservation, arrangement, and description of distinct portions of the collection according to professional and current archival standards and best practices. The selected candidate, if a graduate student, is expected to have completed basic archival coursework and at least one past project that included processing, preserving, surveying, or assessing archival and manuscript collections. The candidate is expected to complete the work with a high degree of independence.
The ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, in English is necessary to be successful in this position.
Education and Experience:
⮚ High school diploma or GED
⮚ Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft and Google Suite applications
Preferred:
⮚ Experience working as a volunteer
⮚ Currently enrolled in a Master's program for Archival Science
POSITION DETAILS
Work Location: Work is conducted on-site at the Glenwood Springs Historical Society & Frontier Museum, 1001 Colorado Avenue, Glenwood Springs, Colorado.
Position Structure: Limited duration position, full-time at 40 hours per week or part-time at 20 hours per week; not to exceed two calendar years.
Compensation: $18.78/hr
Benefits: Full-time, 40 hours per week is eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance; disability and life insurance; employer-sponsored retirement account. Part-time, 20 hours per week is eligible to participate in a voluntary retirement plan with employer match and have access to an employee assistance program.
Paid Time Off: Paid vacation, sick, and holiday time accrued based on number of hours worked.
