Job Description
Colorado Academy seeks candidates for the position of Lower School Library Assistant for the Lower School Library. This is a 12-month, full-time, ongoing appointment with a flexible start date up to August 1, 2024. This position reports to the Director of Libraries and the Lower School Principal. The Lower School Library Assistant works collaboratively with the Director of Libraries to support the students, faculty, and staff of the Lower School.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with Director of Libraries on the daily management of the Lower School Library
- Creates and maintains a welcoming library environment that is attractive, inviting and conducive to learning
- Supports teachers with library materials for classroom learning
- Manages the library circulation desk
- Assists with the management of the Library Department budget by recording expenditures and maintaining budget records.
- Assists with planning and creating materials for library lessons
- Creates library signs, bulletin boards, displays, and library slideshows
- Fosters an interest in books and love of reading through reader’s advisory, planning storytime themes for PreK and Kindergarten.
- Co-teaches Pre-K and Kindergarten library classes and assists with teaching other classes as needed.
- Maintains a current awareness of children’s literature and services, as well as professional trends, methods, and ethics
- Collaborates with the Pre-K-12 Library Team to promote and grow library services within the library community
- Assists in the selection of materials and maintaining a collection that is diverse in format and content to support the learning needs of the students; keeps the collection in good physical condition
- Collaborates with the Director of Libraries to plan, organize, and manage the Lower School Book Fair and annual author visits
- Demonstrates a commitment to the principles of the library profession regarding confidentiality, the rights of the users, and other intellectual property concerns
- Implements and interprets library policies and procedures for students and staff
- Supports and collaborates with the Director of Libraries and Library Team
- Serves as Family Leader to group of Lower School students
- Participates in recess duty and carpool duty
- Plans and implements library services during the summer months for Colorado Academy’s summer programs including summer camp and Horizons
- Attends and contributes to ongoing internal professional development
Requirements
- Enthusiasm for working with Lower School students and teachers
- Self-starter, flexible, collaborative
- Welcoming to all members of the community
- Experience using library management systems and catalogs and maintaining a digital library presence
- Proficient in Google Suite Productivity Tools and working knowledge of Canva and LibGuides Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s Degree is required
- 3+ years experience working in a school or public library, preferably supporting grades Pre-K through 5

The pay range for the position is $25.00 - $27.00 per hour. Colorado Academy reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range. Any discrepancies that may exist do not relate to sex.
