Job Description

The East Smithfield Public Library seeks a forward thinking, energetic, people oriented director. 5 years supervisory experience necessary. Experience working with Koha/Aspen, Quickbooks, LibCal and Canva preferred. 40 hours per week, 1 Saturday per month.  MLS or MLIS required. The job description is below. Salary $35.00 per hour. DIRECTOR: Chief administrative officer of the library. Reports directly to the board of trustees. Plans and directs all aspects of the operation.  Represents the library in the community.

1.                  Oversee book selection and collection development

2.                  Order adult library materials

3.                  Prepare and implement budget

4.                  Prepare bills for bookkeeper, print checks for vendors using Quickbooks

5.                  Write and submit grant proposals

6.                  Serve as contact person for all vendors

7.                  Attends OSL, OLIS and other statewide meetings

8.                  Order all equipment, furniture and supplies for programs

9.                  Compile OLIS annual reports

10.              Hold monthly library program

11.              Cover circulation desk one shift per week and as necessary to cover PTO days

12.              Attend monthly Board Meetings. Post agendas and minutes on Secretary of State website

13.              Plan and facilitate library layout changes

14.              Submit various state and federal surveys

15.              Evaluate professional and paraprofessional staff

16.              Participate in departmental meetings for Town of Smithfield

17.              Conduct interviews and hire staff

18.              Attend Town’s budget hearings and financial Town meetings

19.              Other duties as needed
