Job Description

Job Summary

The Community College of RI is currently seeking part-time, reference librarians to provide library services to students during the evenings and weekends. Under the supervision of the head of reference, part-time librarians will provide reference and instruction services as requested, and will participate in the development and management of resources used to support these activities. Work schedule will be primarily evenings, but there may be occasional opportunities for day and weekend coverage.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assisting patrons at the reference desk.
  • Instructing library patrons in the use of the online catalog, periodical databases, other library resources, and the Internet.
  • Answering phone/on-line chat reference questions.
  • Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of the reference collection and on-line services.
  • Plan and conduct library instruction sessions as needed.
  • Assisting patrons at the circulation desk with checking in and out materials and activating library cards.

Minimum Requirements

  • MLS/MLIS from an ALA accredited program required.
  • Professional library reference experience required.
  • Experience with web-based resources and electronic databases required.

Competencies

  • Experience in library instruction preferred.
  • Experience with OCLC WMS preferred.
  • Academic library experience preferred.
