Title: SAFETY SPECIALIST

Pay Rate: $19.10 - $23.20 per hour
Position Overview: Are you passionate about ensuring the safety and security of individuals within a vibrant community setting? The Arapahoe Library District is seeking a dedicated and proactive Safety Specialist to play a pivotal role in maintaining a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for library staff, patrons, and facilities. As a Safety Specialist, you will employ your strong problem-solving abilities, excellent communication skills, empathy, and exceptional customer service skills to navigate various situations with professionalism, tact, and a deep commitment to patron satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish and nurture positive relationships with library staff and patrons, fostering a sense of trust and collaboration.
- Maintain a vigilant and adaptable approach to handle a wide range of situations, from routine disruptions to complex incidents, with a problem-solving mindset.
- Conduct routine walkthroughs of library properties to identify potential safety violations and areas of concern.
- Review and investigate reports submitted to the Patron Incident Tracking System (PITS), using communication skills to work with staff and patrons to address concerns.
- Collaborate closely with library staff, community resource specialists, and safety team members to support each other in maintaining a secure environment.
- Provide exceptional assistance to patrons by answering queries, offering guidance, and ensuring a positive library experience through outstanding customer service.
- Enforce library policies and codes of conduct professionally and calmly, using de-escalation techniques when necessary.
- Utilize trauma-informed care approaches to address disruptions and assist patrons in accessing appropriate resources.
- Monitor and analyze security cameras to aid in incident response and coordination with emergency agencies.
- Participate in ongoing training to stay updated on safety procedures, conflict resolution techniques, and community trends.
- Performs other related duties as assigned and requested.
Qualifications:

- Basic knowledge of trauma-informed care and conflict resolution techniques is a plus.
- High School diploma, or equivalent
- Six months to two years of similar or related experience such as safety, asset protection, law enforcement and/ or customer service.
- Ability to work varying shifts, including evenings and weekends.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check.
- Ability to quickly travel between Library facilities as needed and have reliable transportation.
- Ability to maintain a positive, friendly demeanor and remain calm under pressure.
- Ability to professionally and calmly de-escalate situations.
- Ability to work with patrons of varying backgrounds.
- Certified in CPR, First Aid, and AED, preferred, or must have the ability to attain certification within 90 days of employment.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality, integrity, discretion and trust.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Basic technology skills for Windows, and Outlook.
Work Environment:
The essential duties for this position are performed in an indoor office environment.
Moderate noise (computers, phones, printers and patron interactions).
Ability to work in confined areas.
Ability to work both inside and outside in all types of inclement weather conditions.
Physical Activities:
Physical activities required to perform essential duties include:
Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50-75%of the time.
Must be able to move around 50-75% of the time.
Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
Ability to carry up to 20 lbs.
Ability to push and pull a cart weighing up to 20 lbs.
Ability to kneel, crouch, reach and stoop 25% of the time.
Ability to walk and stand up to 100% of the time during shift.
