Job Description

Do you love helping people? Are your customer service skills outstanding? Does spending your workday surrounded by books in a historic library setting appeal to you?

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to: providing excellent customer service while working on library tasks at the circulation desk; assisting patrons; assisting with library organization and book accession; and helping to make library programs and events successful.

Requirements:

  • At least six months of customer service or retail experience
  • Computer/tech fluency
  • Flexibility to work mornings and evenings, Monday through Saturday
  • Ability to work in both Idaho Springs and Georgetown

This is a part-time, on-call position and will entail approximately 15 – 20 hours per week. Partial benefits. The pay range for this position is $14.42 – $17.01.

JOB SUMMARY
Under the limited supervision of the Library Coordinator and the Library District Director, Library Substitutes perform librarian duties on an on-call basis. Library Substitutes are responsible for performing customer service and administrative tasks relating to the circulation of library materials. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: working at the circulation desk, assisting patrons and providing them with exemplary customer service, assisting with program preparations, supervising young patrons, maintaining library organization, and contributing to the general upkeep of all library spaces. Working in a team environment is a vital component of this position. May be asked to help with additional duties under the direction of the Library Coordinator and the Library District Director.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

●  Provide all patrons with excellent customer service in order to consistently deliver a positive library experience, in person, over the phone, and in email correspondence.

●  Handle the duties of the circulation desk, including but not limited to: checking materials in/out, issuing and renewing library cards, maintaining attendance statistics, requesting materials from other libraries via InterLibrary Loan, reserving the meeting room, registering patrons for programs, enforcing the code of conduct, and collecting fines as necessary.

●  Assist patrons in using computers, devices, equipment, copier/fax machine, and the library catalog.

●  Assist patrons in locating and selecting materials and in researching information, both in print and online.

●  Refer patrons to library databases and additional resources as necessary.

●  Return materials to shelves accurately and promptly.

●  Ensure shelves are maintained in an orderly and organized manner.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
At least six (6) months of customer service or retail experience.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
At least one (1) year of experience working in a library environment. Previous experience working with children, technology, and diverse populations is preferred.

REQUIRED EDUCATION High school diploma/GED.

PREFERRED EDUCATION Some college.

REQUIRED SKILLS
Attention to detail, customer service techniques, ability to multitask, ability to deal with stressful situations with tact and diplomacy, and use of general office equipment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work may include walking, standing, bending, lifting, and keyboarding. Hearing voice conversation is essential to safe and effective job performance. Clear Creek County Library District provides reasonable job-related accommodations for those with differing abilities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is primarily performed in an office environment with shared workspaces and equipment. Shifts may include days, nights, weekends, or occasional holidays, and are available on an as-needed basis. Working on Saturdays will be an expectation for this position. Shifts are not guaranteed for Substitute Assistant Librarians.
