ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Service to Library Customers
· Provides a variety of services at information desks including basic instruction of library catalog, online databases and library procedures and policies.
· Offers excellent, proactive customer service for youth including expert reference service and readers’ advisory to inspire the lifelong love of reading.
· Demonstrates knowledge and appreciation of children’s literature, periodicals and audiovisual materials and current technology trends.
· Coordinates with the Youth Collection Librarian to maintain a well-working collection through suggested titles and regular weeding processes.
Programming/Outreach
· Develops and presents programming for youth 0 to 18, their families, and other caregivers.
· Works with the programming team to develop engaging programs that meet the needs and interests of targeted audiences.
· Assists with the ongoing evaluation of programs using a variety of data collection points to use in decision-making and reporting on the success of individual and overall programming activities.
· Develops partnerships to reach new audiences and connect them with library resources.
· Presents library programs and services to youth outside of the library through strategic partnerships.
· Creates and coordinates passive programs for youth inside and outside of the library.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:
Self-development and Expertise, including
· Pursues professional development opportunities and recaps content with appropriate audiences.
· Reviews professional articles to keep up with developments in the topic of youth services.
· Collaborates with fellow library professionals in order to contribute to the library profession. Practices self-evaluation and exemplifies advocacy for libraries and youth.
· Maintains self-development and keeps up-to-date on Library affairs.
Performs other duties as assigned or requested
· Communicates consistently and in a timely manner and through email. Works with others to complete assignments.
· May serve as library committee chair and may serve on community boards or organizations as an ambassador for the library.
· Promotes library programs and resources by representing the library at community outreach events.
· Performs additional duties as opportunities arise that assist the department and the Library in achieving specified goals and objectives.

Knowledge and current awareness of library principles, practices and tools, procedures, methods, materials, and philosophy
Knowledge of interests and needs of youth and their caregivers.
Knowledge of standard safety practices
Skill in understanding and applying oral, written, illustrated or demonstrated instructions
Ability to access, input, and retrieve information from a computer
Proficiency in office software and contemporary technology skills
Ability to navigate OPAC and Internet proficiently
Ability to make public presentations
Ability to effectively use all office technology available
Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license and to transport self to other library and
community locations
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to communicate verbally
Ability to maneuver about the library in a timely fashion
Ability to read a minimum print size equal to 10 point
Ability to tolerate dust, mold, etc. that may have accumulated on books.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
MLS or MLIS from an ALA accredited graduate program strongly preferred.
*From the right candidate we will accept an agreement to enroll in an accredited MLS or MLIS program from an ALA accredited graduate program within six (6) months of employment in this position with the intention of completion within three (3) years.
2 – 3 years’ experience working in a public library setting desirable
*A candidate who is hired without their MLS or MLIS degree will start as a Library Associate. Wages: $21.79-26.68 DOE

SCHEDULE:
Unpaid meal break of at least ½ hour per day to be taken for each 5 hours scheduled.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule and to be available to work flexible hours to cover unplanned staffing shortages.

Benefits & Additional Compensation Info
This full-time position includes a full benefits package including health, dental, vision, life, AD&D, and supplemental insurance coverages as well as HRA and retirement savings. Benefits include vacation and sick leave, and 12 paid holidays.
