Job Description

Job Summary

GateWay Community College (GWCC) Library seeks an innovative, dynamic, and deeply knowledgeable library professional to serve as Librarian. The person hired for this role will be responsible for a broad range of electronic services (research databases, remote authentication, link resolver, access tools) activities, managing the full lifecycle of electronic resources, acquisition, analyzing usage statistics, coordinating renewals, updates to library technologies, and working with vendors.  They will provide a key leadership role by training library employees on new library technologies, and troubleshooting all technological issues including both software and hardware.  As library faculty, the person hired for this role will participate in college and district wide programs and committees.  This position performs reference and instruction services both in person and online.  

The expected start date for this position is August 2024.

Essential Functions

  • Oversees the acquisition and deaccession of electronic resources.
  • Manages the full lifecycle of electronic resources, including working with vendors to gather pricing information and negotiate licenses, establishing trials, gathering and analyzing usage statistics, and coordinating renewals.
  • Tracks electronic resources budget expenditures and anticipates budget needs.
  • Provides leadership and management of electronic resources including training and troubleshooting.
  • Manages link resolver and other access tools, working with other departments to ensure software and hardware is updated to maintain correct links to licensed content, and resolve issues identified by staff or patrons.
  • Manages the library hotspot program, including purchasing, tracking, and troubleshooting of devices.
  • Creates, updates and maintains research guides on the LibGuide platform.
  • Develops and maintains policies, procedures, and other types of documentation as needed.
  • Engages in professional development, scholarship, and service in accordance with District standards for promotion and tenure; serves on Library, College, and District committees.
  • Serves on the Libraries’ Information Literacy Team, and designs, teaches, and assesses information literacy instruction sessions.
  • Participates in reference rotation including evenings and weekends (as needed).
  • Collaborates with other staff members on maintaining the Library’s web and social media presence.
  • Coordinates and participates in outreach and promotion activities.
  • Works with library staff in a team environment.
  • Provides excellent customer service and respect to all customers including staff, faculty, students, and the community.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A Master's degree in Library or Information Science (or its equivalent) from a graduate professional program accredited by the American Library Association (ALA)

A Master’s degree (or higher) in any of the following areas is within the Library Field of Study: Library and Information Studies, Information Studies, Library and Information Science, Library Science, Information Resources and Library Science, Information Science AND is from a college or university program accredited by the American Library Association (ALA). The degree must be conferred at the time of application.

Desired Qualifications

  1. Two (2) or more years of experience teaching , lesson planning, and assessment with K-12, college, and/or adult learners in both in-person and digital formats.
  2. Experience in a library with a combination of in-person and remote settings providing reference services to diverse populations and users of all levels in an academic setting within the last five years.
  3. One (1) or more years of experience with subscription databases (e.g. EbscoHost, GALE, ProQuest, etc.) and the electronic resource acquisition/licensing, and/or resource management of these products.
  4. Experience with one or more of the following, technical side of an integrated library system; discovery tool; link resolver/proxy authentication (e.g. Alma/Primo; EZproxy; EbscoNet, etc.).  GateWay will be migrating to Alma/Primo VE in December 2024.
  5. Experience with outreach and promotion of library resources and services to diverse populations and users of all levels.
  6. Experience in a leadership role.

  • Position is in-person on campus 4-5 days a week.
  • May require some evenings or Saturdays.
  • May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen
  • May be required to lift or carry up to #25 lbs

Hiring Salary Range

$49,725 - $95,728 annually DOE
