Job Description:

The Special & Digital Collections Archivist Librarian is responsible for increasing and maintaining discovery of the library’s special collections to support the learning, teaching, and research of Auraria campus users. This person will create finding aids using appropriate metadata schema and the library’s digital asset management system (currently Ubiquity). The person in this position reports to and works closely with the Special & Digital Collections Program Lead Librarian. With the Program Lead they will routinely assess the entire archival collection for future and ongoing needs, potential accessions, and current requirements for deaccession. This is an exciting time to join Special & Digital Collections as the unit is in the process of focusing its vision for the collections to highlight the theme of displacement in the following areas: the history of Auraria Campus and the neighborhood preceding it; the Latinx Experience; the Asian-American Experience; and Civic Reform and Activism. The person in this position would assist in growing our Displaced Aurarian Collection and would oversee the Amache Relocation Camp Collections, among others. The Special & Digital Collections unit at Auraria Library is housed within the Collection Management & Discovery Division.

Special & Digital Collections Archivist Librarian

 What you will do:

 Archival Work - 75%

  • Oversee accession, appraisal, deaccession, preservation, rehousing, processing, and description of all archival materials, including manuscripts, photographs, artifacts, maps, and architectural drawings
  • Create inventories and collection surveys
  • Create finding aids and other measures to support discovery of archival materials
  • Apply an ethics of care to the work and processes, and work to create ethical relationships between record creators, subjects, users, and communities
  • Submit purchase requests for archival materials

  Collaboration - 10%

  • Collaborate with library colleagues and/or community partners on programs, events, or initiatives involving special collections
  • Coordinate with members of the Special & Digital Collections Unit on instituting best practices, designing workflows, and creating documentation
  • Suggest digitization of materials for reasons of preservation, research needs, and/or outreach
  • Work with Special Collections Cataloger on creating bibliographic records

 User Services - 5%

  • Conduct research consultations and/or participate in reference requests with community researchers, faculty, staff, and students on occasion
  • Respond to collection requests

 Leadership and Service - 10%

  • ·    Participate in library, university, campus-wide, and/or external committees, certain teams (dependent on functional versus representational involvement), and task forces, with other leadership and service assigned and/or considered. 

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $60,000 - $65,000.  

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Qualifications

Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Master’s degree in library science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program or equivalent accredited body program, or master’s degree in a related field with an Academy of Certified Archivist certification. Degree should be conferred within 3-months of hire.
  • 1-year worth of experience working with archives in a professional position (internships and graduate assistantship positions count at a rate of .50. Although equivalent for hire, this type of work will not count toward faculty promotion at Auraria Library for this position)
  • Experience drafting handbooks, workflows, tutorials, or other materials illustrating best practices for archival work 

Preferred Qualification to possess (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Experience with conscientious and inclusive description practices 
  • Experience with digitization of archival materials
  • Knowledge of conservation of rare materials
