Health Sciences Librarian
Library of the University of California, Davis
Overview of Position
The Library of the University of California, Davis, seeks a creative, versatile, and enterprising librarian to work closely with health sciences professional students, residents and fellows, clinical and teaching faculty and staff, and institutional stakeholders in a diverse, fast-paced academic health sciences environment. Reporting to the Head of the Blaisdell Medical Library, the successful candidate will be responsible for partnering to improve the discovery and use of biomedical and health information, especially regarding clinical health care and translational research. In partnership with multiple stakeholders, the Health Sciences Librarian provides biomedical research and instructional services to the clinical and academic communities of the University of California, Davis. This position will work closely with the clinical programs and practices of the institution and is responsible for leading outreach and training to increase the value of library services to this community. The successful candidate must be able to independently and collaboratively plan, design, and collaborate on services for all the areas of import for the health sciences campus (research, education, clinical care) while also aligning such services with the University Library’s mission, vision, and strategic priorities.

Position Responsibilities
Under the general supervision of the Head of the Blaisdell Medical Library, the incumbent will:

Design, develop and implement instruction sessions (including curricular collaborations) and learning materials (e.g., instructional objects, handouts, tutorials, videos, online guides, web-based information), both in-person and online, for graduate medical education residents, fellows, faculty, and other clinical health professionals on topics such as evidence-based practice (i.e. Fuld National Institute), scholarly activities, evidence syntheses, critical analysis, finding evidence for clinical care, and research and reproducibility best practices.
Foster relationships, build strategic partnerships, and lead outreach efforts to graduate medical education and clinical programs (e.g., pharmacy, clinical nursing) groups to foster education and scholarship opportunities between the Library and these programs and clinics.
Collaborate on creating and developing marketing and promotional materials for the UC Davis Health community.
Provide consultations to faculty, residents, fellows, students, staff, and clinicians on topics such as finding quality evidence, finding and using data, data management and sharing, evidence syntheses, evidence appraisal, and the research publication lifecycle.
Participate as a team member on the Library’s Systematic Reviews Team, and collaborate with researchers on evidence syntheses projects, including systematic reviews.
Participate in program evaluation and learner assessment, as well as departmental and service evaluation and assessment work
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
As an academic appointee, engages actively in pertinent ongoing research, scholarship, or creative activity and/or teaching.
Salary and Benefits
Rank and salary: Assistant Librarian, Salary Point 1, $61,920 to Associate Librarian, Salary Point 10, $87,552. (Appointment rank and salary based on qualifications and experience.)

The incumbent will be an LX Collective Bargaining Unit member represented by the University Council - American Federation of Teachers (UC-AFT).

QUALIFICATIONS

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

• Graduate degree in library/information science from an ALA-accredited institution or other relevant accredited graduate degree equivalent with demonstrated experience using health information resources and tools
• Demonstrated knowledge of best practices about or ability to:
  • Design, develop and deliver instruction in person, using online video conferencing tools, or via other online or hybrid modalities
  • Respond effectively to changing needs and priorities by strategizing, prioritizing, and taking a flexible approach to a rapidly changing environment
  • Work independently, as well as on cross-functional teams or projects, within the framework of an organization’s policies and goals
• Familiarity with current and emerging trends, issues, and tools in research or education related to health and/or biomedical disciplines
• Ability to locate and evaluate health information resources for healthcare providers and/or researchers
• Excellent interpersonal, analytical, organizational, problem-solving, time management, and communication skills

Preferred qualifications (other preferred, but not required, qualifications for the position)

• Masters in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution or equivalent
• One or more years of recent experience in supporting the clinical, research, and learning needs of health professionals, and health professions faculty, students, and staff in a clinical environment
• Conducted evidence-based practice, instructional design, health data management, and health evidence syntheses (e.g., systematic reviews)
• Experience in developing collaborative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders
• Demonstrated ability to conduct interdisciplinary research adjacent to health sciences and intersectional research (e.g., health disparities, health equity, environmental impacts on health)
• Evidence of knowledge of pedagogical theory and or instructional methods as well as of current and emerging trends in instructional and research support services for health professionals
• Evidence of ability to work collaboratively with library colleagues and partners within the library and across the campus
• Evidence of commitment to fostering an inclusive environment
• Evidence of professional engagement, such as membership in a professional organization or committee service, and/or a record of accomplishment such as presentations at conferences, publications/creative activities or teaching consonant with an academic appointment
• Ability to meet the University of California criteria for advancement and promotion within the Librarian Series
• Record of accomplishment in research, scholarship, or creative activity and/or teaching consonant with an academic appointment
