Job Description

Title: SUPERVISOR, BRANCH

Location Sheridan Library, 3425 W. Oxford Avenue, Denver, CO 80236

Reports to: Manager, Library

FLSA Status: Exempt

Pay Rate: $60,944 - $76,232

In this impactful role, you will oversee the daily operations of the branch, ensuring efficiency and quality service. You will inspire and develop your staff, providing them with training, mentoring, and feedback. As a Person in Charge (PIC), you will be one of the point people in critical situations, de-escalating and resolving concerns to ensure safety, while promoting positive relationships. Creative problem-solving is essential, and you will address daily operational challenges, and proactively communicate with other departments as needed. Active engagement is a priority, with a minimum of 10% of your time spent working alongside employees, leading by example. Collaboration and innovation are key aspects of this role as you work closely with the library manager, assistant supervisor, and librarians to identify and address the needs and interests of our patrons, especially teens and Spanish-speaking patrons, two key groups at the Sheridan Library. You will build and maintain relationships with community groups, schools, and organizations to increase the library's outreach and visibility.


 

Success Requirements:

To thrive in this role, you must bring a minimum of two years of successful supervisory experience, a background in library services or customer service, and a demonstrated commitment to diversity and equity. Your adaptability, engaging interpersonal skills, and ability to foster a team environment that motivates team members are crucial. A deep understanding of library operations is essential for success.

  • Intermediate technology skills (Windows, Microsoft Teams, Word, Outlook, Excel).
  • Spanish language skills preferred

Work Environment:

  • The essential duties for this position are performed in an indoor environment.
  • Moderate noise (computers, phones, printers and patron interactions).

Physical Activities:

Physical activities required to perform essential duties include:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 25-50% of the time.
  • Must be able to move around 75-100% of the time.
  • Ability to lift to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to carry up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to push and pull a cart weighing up to 100 lbs.
  • Ability to kneel, crouch, reach and stoop 50% of the time.
  • Use of hands, fingers, and grasping of books, DVDs are required, with repetitive motion.
  • Long periods of sitting, remaining stationary, or moving around.
  • Frequency or repetitive actions which includes typing, shelving materials, occasionally opening and closing media cases.
  • Bending, grasping, stretching without limitations which includes reaching into bins for materials, moving bins and carts filled with materials, shelving and shifting materials at various height levels.
  • Lifting above your waist, head, shoulders, etc. up to 25 lbs.

Arapahoe County and other major suburban counties make up the greater metropolitan area surrounding Denver, Colorado. The Arapahoe Library District operates eight branch libraries, including mobile library services, and a library at the County Detention Center, funded by the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Department. A seven-member Board of Trustees sets the library budget and determines policy.
