Job Description

Facilitates the provision of access to and maintenance of electronic resources utilized by the Library.  Performs ongoing management and troubleshooting of the library’s discovery tool. Provides library instruction, and serves as a subject bibliographer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receives activation acknowledgement from vendors and/or from other Library staff after electronic resources have been purchased.
  • Edits discovery tools as needed for new/changed resources.
  • Identifies permissible use parameters and configures public notes to convey this information to ISU users.
  • Liaises with Lead Cataloger and/or acquisitions staff to identify possible errors in bibliographic and/or order records in integrated library system.
  • Ensures continued access to electronic resources using library discovery tool and other tools.
  • Monitors, diagnoses and corrects access problems as reported through the library’s problem tracking system and/or via other ways.
  • Maintains and reports key metrics (including usage, cost comparison, etc.) for library digital resources.
  • Works collaboratively with library systems department staff to establish and maintain access to electronic resources by all authorized means, including by proxy server. Assists with proxy server problem solving.
  • Maintains effective relations with the providers of the library’s electronic resources, so as to efficiently diagnose and solve access problems.
  • May liaise with ITRC staff to identify and implement ways to deploy library tools such as the discovery tool add-on into the university course management system.
  • Monitors emerging trends, technologies and best practices in electronic resources management that have the potential for new and improved library services.
  • Participates in reference desk duty, chat reference.
  • Assists faculty, students, staff and other users on a one-on-one basis by answering specific information requests, offering research assistance, and guiding users in the effective use of a broad range of information resources found in the library.
  • Serves as a bibliographer to designated academic departments and oversees the selection of materials in assigned subject areas.
  • Assists in collection development and evaluation; monitors pertinent portions of the acquisitions budget; works to develop and maintain good relations with faculty members.
  • Participates in professional service activities, including university and library committees and task forces, and attends professional meetings.
  • Participates in the library's instruction program.
  • Performs other responsibilities and duties as assigned by supervisor.


 

Benefits & Additional Compensation Info

Salary will be $50,000 annually, commensurate with education and experience. Additional Info & Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires an MLS or equivalent from an ALA-accredited program by date of hire.
  • Experience in the management of a library’s licensed electronic resources (ebooks, ejournals and databases) within an academic library, either as a professional or as a staff member.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and interpret a MARC bibliographic record.
  • Ability to work collegially and cooperatively with varied user groups and function effectively in a team environment.
  • Excellent analytical, oral and written communication skills.
  • Evidence of high productivity, multitasking and problem solving skills when working independently and/or in groups, as changing situations require.
  • Demonstrated ability to respond effectively to change, including changing technologies, needs, and priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using a discovery service, link resolver, integrated library system and bibliographic utility.
  • Cataloging experience within an academic library.
  • Experience serving as a point of contact for maintenance and troubleshooting of electronic resources.
  • Familiarity with issues related to the management of electronic resources, including changing electronic publishing environment, copyright and intellectual property rights, acquisitions and cataloging principles, usage data, and remote access issues.
  • Experience working with publishers and vendors of electronic resources to facilitate collection of usage statistics and to facilitate notice about product updates, training sessions.
  • Experience working in public services area in an academic library.
