Seeking candidates for Library Director at the John P. Holt Brentwood Library, Brentwood, TN

John P. Holt Brentwood Library

Starting salary up to $125,000 depending on experience.

Up to 5% salary increase after successful completion of six-month probationary period.

Plus: Transportation Allowance of up to $2000/year to be paid over 26 pay periods annually.

The City of Brentwood seeks an experienced and courageous leader and collaborative professional with excellent interpersonal savvy to join its team as the Director of the John P. Holt Brentwood Library.

As the Library Director you are responsible for overseeing all aspects of a high-quality public library. Reporting to the Assistant City Manager and serving as a liaison between City Administration and the seven-member Library Board, as well as the non-profit Friends of the Brentwood Library, the Director is called to carefully balance community values and ideals with first amendment considerations when developing library resources, programs, and services that enrich, empower, and engage the Brentwood community.

Key Functions:

·         Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, involved in the hiring process of all staff.

·         Plans, organizes, and directs overall activities of the Library Department .

·         Develops, manages, and monitors departmental budget.

·         Recommends and implements long term goals and objectives as determined by the Assistant City Manager, City Manager, City Commission and Library Board, including but not limited to required nonroutine goals for the City as well as develop and implement a formal strategic plan.

·         Develops, executes, and evaluates general policies and procedures.

·         Develops and improves library’s available collections, materials, and services to meet community needs while carefully balancing community values and ideals with first amendment considerations.

·         Coordinates maintenance and capital projects for the library campus.

·         Coordinates with other City Departments on collaborative projects.

·         Serves as a liaison for the library to City Administration, elected officials, community leaders, board members, the State Regional Library System, and the general public.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Has 5 plus years of library supervisory experience with demonstrated leadership and management skills.
  • Has direct library experience working in a community similar to Brentwood.
  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain solid working relationships with staff, patrons, and community stakeholders.
  • Places a high priority on developing staff to meet career and organizational goals.
  • Has a willingness to learn and understand internal and external stakeholder expectations and needs.
  • Serves with honesty, integrity, and authenticity.

Qualifications:

A master’s degree in Library Science from an accredited American Library Association (ALA) program required, master’s in Business or Public Administration a plus, five years of library-related supervisory experience. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job may be considered.
