Summary of Position
Library Instruction Assistants provide research help, help with staff coverage, teach library instruction sessions, and work on special projects at RRCC’s Lakewood and Arvada campuses.
Essential Responsibilities
- Teach library instruction to various disciplines on an ongoing basis.
- Provide research help to RRCC students, faculty, and staff in-person, by telephone, email, videoconference (Zoom), and IM reference (LibAnswers).
- Collaborate with Instruction Librarian to create curriculum materials, including research guides, student learning objective assessments, and/or instructional tutorials.
- Support general library operations, including coordination of student workers and their daily assigned tasks.
- Assist with other duties, events, outreach activities and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution. Must be currently enrolled as a graduate student or have completed a Master's Degree in a library science program. Experience or interest in information literacy. Knowledge of major Microsoft Office software programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications:Coursework or professional experience with web-based applications (such as social media, cloud-based media storage, videoconferencing programs, and learning management systems). Coursework or professional experience in reference services. Coursework or professional experience in library instruction, including knowledge of library instruction assessment methods. Experience with video editing and production. Experience generating and editing social media content in a professional capacity. Interest in working in an academic or health sciences library. Membership in, or experience working with, diverse communities and supporting the success of individuals from underrepresented racial, ethnic, and gender backgrounds.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills. Dependable, punctual, effective communicator, responsible qualities. Demonstrated ability to work with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds and typically underrepresented groups.
Physical and Cognitive Demands: The following are some of the physical and cognitive demands commonly associated with this position:
- Constantly uses a computer and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc.
- Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.
- The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
- Occasionally moves, positions, and transports classroom and office equipment and supplies weighing up to 10 lbs.

Weekly hours can range from 10 to 28, depending on the applicant's availability.
