Job Description

New Lenox Public Library is looking for a creative, enthusiastic, and technology-minded team player to manage The Studio space and its staff. Opportunities abound in this hands-on position that facilitates patron-focused services and programs to our growing community. Our newly renovated Studio space welcomes over 1,000 visitors per month! How You’ll Contribute:

The Studio Manager is responsible for:

  • Planning, managing, and directing activities and procedures related to the successful daily operation of The Studio
  • Maintaining an atmosphere conducive to connecting, creating and exploring
  • Developing strategic goals, processes, and procedures for The Studio
  • Hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating staff for The Studio
  • Scheduling staff and approving timecards
  • Tracking and creating patron stories and reports based on The Studio usage
  • Establishing performance benchmarks
  • Gathering and analyzing statistics
  • Monitoring, maintaining, and replacing The Studio equipment, software, and supplies
  • Creating and updating training documentation including procedure manuals and guidelines for The Studio equipment and activities
  • Assisting library patrons online and in person by finding materials, answering questions, and providing technical help
  • Offering training on technology available in The Studio such as tours, staff training, individual instruction, group classes, and events
  • Working closely with the IT department to provide consistent library services
  • Collaborating with the Management Team and Administration on organizational development and strategic planning
  • Recommending policy updates to better serve the community
  • Actively seeking grant opportunities
  • Demonstrating creativity, initiative, and ability to work independently to achieve personal, department, and library-wide focused goals
  • Participating in the planning and implementation of programs and events for all ages as needed
  • Performing other related duties as required

Requirements include:

  • Associate’s Degree from an accredited institution with a minimum of 2 years experience required
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution preferred
  • Working in a public library makerspace or digital media lab
  • High level of experience with maker technologies and equipment and other no, low, or high technologies
  • Experience with digital media creation and editing tools
  • Experience with basic digitization and conversion processes
  • Strong organizational and scheduling skills
  • Strong communication skills when working with our community, library personnel, and vendors
  • Ability to patiently and respectfully instruct and guide users of all skill levels, backgrounds, and ages
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft and Apple computer systems
  • Ability to quickly learn new technology and adapt to emerging technologies
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues independently and know how to identify solutions using a wide breadth of resources
  • Knowledge of related online resources offered, such as Creativebug, Craftsy, and Linkedin Learning preferred
  • Familiarity with Illinois and Federal laws as they apply to public libraries, including privacy and copyright preferred
  • Access to transportation and ability to travel

This full-time, non-exempt managerial position will report to the Executive Director.
