Job Description

Director of Metadata and Access / Library

Cooley Law School

Lansing, MI

Cooley Law School, with locations in Michigan and Florida, seeks a Director of Metadata and Access in the Brennan Library.  This position will be located at the Lansing, Michigan campus.

The Director of Metadata and Access (formerly Head of Technical Services) will coordinate departmental activities and staff in cataloging, serials, and systems.  The director will coordinate support to other departments and their staff in the performance of technical services procedures to support and provide access to the Library collection.  Works with other departments on acquisitions and stack maintenance, including directing staff with proper procedures and project management.  Supervises overall implementation and updating of the integrated library system (ILS).  The position is on campus, Monday through Friday.

Successful candidates will possess all or many of the following qualifications and/or skills: Master’s degree in Library Science or related field; minimum of five years of technical experience in a library using an ILS, Sierra ILS preferred, and supervisory responsibility.  Knowledge of specialized technical applications (Regular Expressions, Notepad++, HTML, OCLC Connexions, and Innovative Interfaces, Inc. Load Table construction); current cataloging standards (ability to catalog materials in multiple formats; proficiency in use of a bibliographic utility for cataloging; ability to effectively supervise; leadership and coaching skills; strong critical thinking; strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact positively with individuals from a variety of diverse backgrounds; strong service ethic; self-directed; can manage multiple tasks and projects; and, works well in a team environment.
