Job Description

Arts Library Special Collections (ALSC) includes rare and unique materials related to Art, Architecture, Design, and Drama. The Library Services Assistant 3 provides support for public services and operational functions including staffing the ALSC service desk, monitoring the ALSC reading room, answering questions, assisting with classroom support, processing requests for transport of library materials to and from the Library Shelving Facility (LSF), and stacks maintenance. 


Assists patrons both internal and external to the library in the use of resources in person, by phone, email, and other forms of communication. Understands and can communicate policies and procedures to patrons and other library staff. Troubleshoots problems with patron accounts and refers problems appropriately to Arts Library management. Assists with accurate collection and recording of statistics, including usage and reference interactions; enters into and retrieves data from spreadsheets and database applications. 


Performs a range of work supporting ALSC public services operations. Assists patrons and staff with access to library materials at ALSC service desk. Undertakes work processes to prepare and document the transport of library materials to and from LSF. Performs clerical functions incidental to library activities.

Additional Info & Requirements

Required Education and Experience: Four years of related work experience, two of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and a high school level education; or two years of related work experience and an Associate's degree; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

Demonstrated ability to interact and communicate tactfully and effectively with a diverse population. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment where team members have some individual and some cooperative responsibilities. 
Required Skill/Ability 2 
Demonstrated ability to effectively complete tasks in a busy public service setting with accuracy and attention to detail despite interruptions. Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service experience in a fast-paced service environment, preferably in a library setting. 
Required Skill/Ability 3 
References must indicate reliable attendance, punctuality, attention to detail, self-motivation, and diligent performance. 
Required Skill/Ability 4 
Demonstrated proficiency in using integrated library systems (e.g. Voyager), email, internet browsers, and multiple Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel). 


Preferred Education, Experience and Skills 
1. Experience with art, architecture, book arts, graphic arts, or theater. 
2. Bachelor’s degree in an arts-related field. 
3. Previous public service experience in an academic library
