Job Description

The University of Colorado at Boulder Libraries invites applications from innovative and enthusiastic service-oriented professionals for the position of Government Publications Education and Outreach Librarian. The Government Publications Library, a state, federal, European Union, and United Nations depository, provides reference and instructional services to the students, staff, and faculty of the University of Colorado at Boulder and to the State. The Government Publications Education and Outreach Librarian participates as a member of the Government Publications Library team in the design and implementation of instructional programs and reference and information services. This position takes a leadership role in the design and development of online learning environments that support the department's instructional and outreach programs and plays a pivotal role in providing the technical foundations for the department's use of web application software for educational initiatives. Additional responsibilities of this position include general reference duties, classroom instruction, and some collection development. This is a tenure-track faculty position reporting to the Faculty Director of the Government Publications Library. Significant parts of the responsibilities of this position are research and creative work and service in keeping with the tenure standards of the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Appointment and Salary: The successful candidate will be appointed as a full-time (12 month), tenure-stream faculty member. Depending upon professional experience and demonstrated accomplishments in scholarly activity, creative work, and service, appointment may be at the level of senior instructor, assistant professor, or above. Starting salary range is $44,000-$52,000, depending upon qualifications. Benefits include 22 working days of vacation, 10 paid holidays, liberal sick leave, University group health care plan, group life insurance, TIAA/CREF retirement/annuity, and support for scholarly/professional activities. Tenured librarians are eligible for sabbatical leave.Requirements: • Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library school by June 2010 • Experience and/or coursework demonstrating a commitment to the library's instructional role in education • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively • Coursework or experience with emerging educational and web technologies • Strong interpersonal skills and public service orientation • Effective oral and written communication skills • Potential for research, scholarly work, and professional achievement at the national level Desirable Qualifications: • Experience or coursework with government information sources • One or more years of experience in providing reference and instruction in an academic library • Coursework and/or experience with classroom teaching • Demonstrated ability to apply innovative information technologies for educational purposes • Demonstrated experience with the design and creation of learning objects
