Summit County Government and the Summit County Library Board are looking for a dynamic Library Director to lead the County’s thriving Library Department.

The Library Director is responsible for developing and implementing a strategic approach to the future while providing positive leadership for all Library staff. The Director oversees the management of the three library facilities and develops Library initiatives, policies, programs and procedures. In addition to the leadership role, the Director must perform complex analytical work, be a high-level critical thinker, an excellent communicator and must demonstrate proficiency in a variety of Library functional areas.
Aspects of the Library Director role include, but are not limited to: management of the library department, hiring of all personnel and oversight of their evaluations, strategic planning, working with the Library Board, overseeing procurement of all library materials and managing the library budget. This individual will develop library policies and the library budget with input from staff and Library Board. They will act as a liaison and collaborate with The Friends of the Summit County Libraries and The Summit County Library Foundation. They will also maintain an understanding of advances in library technology and work to keep the library relevant in a changing world.
Much of the success of this position relies on the Director's ability to work effectively with other Summit County departments, including the Board of County Commissioners, the County Managers office, Human Resources, IS, Finance, and Facilities. The Library Director will represent the Library as a department in various County committees and meetings. The position reports directly to the Assistant County Manager.
The Director is the face of the Summit County Libraries for the community. The position requires a commitment to creating a safe and welcoming place for all library patrons and visitors while reaching out to collaborate with local non -profits, organizations, and interested Summit County groups.

Educational and Experience
Required Experience
- Senior management experience in library or related fields.
- Creative problem solving ability.
- Experience in library work.
- Combination of Bachelor's degree and senior management experience or a Masters in a related field and management experience.
Preferred Experience
Master of Library Science (MLS) or Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) preferred and senior management experience.

Summit County is understandably proud of their three library locations: The North Branch in Silverthorne, The Main Library in Frisco and The South Branch in Breckenridge. From 2021-2024 two of the three branches were extensively expanded and renovated. On reopening, the libraries radically expanded their services, programming and technology to meet the new and evolving needs of the community.
The Summit County Libraries now provide an essential "third" place in the community where locals and visitors can gather to work, study, collaborate or attend many library programs. The Library Director in Summit County will be responsible for maintaining this momentum and crafting a path for the future. One which will continue to meet the ongoing needs of the growing diverse Summit community.
