The ideal candidates for Cataloging Assistant are detail-oriented and highly motivated individuals who enjoy helping customers, have strong computer skills, and communicate well as team members. While previous cataloging experience is not required, the ideal candidate will bring some knowledge of library organization or other inventory approaches and an enthusiastic willingness to learn. A love for troubleshooting and finding new ways to improve processes is a plus!
The successful candidates will bring unique perspectives, lived experiences, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion to their roles as Cataloging Assistants. Bi- or multilingual candidates with fluency or high reading and writing proficiency in Spanish are strongly encouraged to apply.
Under the direction of the Cataloging, Acquisitions, & ILL Manager and the Cataloging Coordinator, these positions will edit and enhance bibliographic records, perform catalog maintenance, and deliver high-quality customer service to create positive outcomes for our customers and community.
The Cataloging Assistant contributes to the effective operation of the Library District by providing excellent internal and external customer service and performing high-quality, efficient cataloging practices that improve and increase the discoverability and accessibility of the library’s resources. The Library District strives to provide materials that are representative of diverse cultures and perspectives, intentionally inclusive, and accessible to all.
The Cataloging Assistant is responsible for locating appropriate bibliographic records, performing complex editing to improve and enhance metadata according to national and local cataloging standards, analyzing subject matter in order to assign appropriate call numbers and subject headings, deriving data from bibliographic records to create new ones, and providing customer service regarding cataloging needs of internal and external customers.
