The City of Westminster is seeking technologically savvy, customer service-oriented Library Associate Substitutes. The Library Associate Substitute position is responsible for a variety of paraprofessional library work including providing exceptional reading recommendations, research services, and technology assistance. In addition to covering shifts at the Information and/or Youth Services desks for Irving Street and College Hill Libraries, Library Associate Substitutes may assist with programming, displays, or tasks related to collection maintenance, depending on interests and experience. The ideal candidate for this role is familiar with library services and values empathy and equity in a public library setting.
This is a non-benefitted hourly role.
Essential Job Functions, Duties, Responsibilities, and Tasks
- Provide staff coverage and excellent customer service at the Information and/or Youth Services desks
- Make recommendations to patrons searching for titles to read, assist patrons with topic searches, direct patrons to other areas of the library, reserve study rooms, and help patrons fill out purchase requests and interlibrary loan requests
- Maintain a neat and orderly work environment throughout youth, teen, and/or adult sections
- Communicate necessary information professionally between service desks or to supervisors by email and/or phone
- Assist patrons with both library and personal technology, including library copiers, printers, public-use computers, and more
- Assist, as needed, with programming, collection maintenance tasks, and on-site emergencies
- Maintains regular and punctual attendance
