Position Summary:
Join our team as the Public Library Leadership Senior Consultant!
Are you passionate about empowering public libraries and fostering vibrant communities? We're seeking a dynamic and experienced leader to join our team as the Public Library Leadership Senior Consultant.
In this role, you'll play a pivotal part in shaping the future of Colorado's public libraries. As the Public Library Leadership Senior Consultant, you'll:
 

  • Collaborate closely with the Small and Rural Library Consultant to achieve program goals and ensure equitable access to library services.
  • Provide expert guidance and training on strategic planning, governance, legal compliance, policy development, procedures, and standards.
  • Foster collaboration among libraries and cultivate a community of leaders who share best practices.
  • Serve as a primary liaison between the state library and public library directors and boards on management and governance matters.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Serves as a state library contact for intellectual freedom and ADA inquiries.
Manages the annual State Library New Directors Forum for new public library directors and facilitates collaborative efforts to strengthen library sustainability, diversity, and innovation.
Collaborates closely with the Rural and Small Library consultant to achieve program goals.
Professional Engagement

Actively participates in professional associations focused on library administration, management, advocacy, marketing, and leadership development.

Stays current on library trends and issues through ongoing professional development and attendance at regional, state, and national meetings and conferences.

Serves as a in-house expert on library management and governance, providing guidance to colleagues and public library staff.

Builds strong relationships with libraries through regular on-site visits, phone calls, and email communication.

Develops and delivers high-quality programs, services, and resources to address library management and governance challenges.

Provides timely and effective support to libraries through responsive communication and in-person consultation.


Resource Management

Demonstrates and applies in-depth knowledge of libraries through consulting, presentations, and committee involvement.

Identifies, implements, and evaluates innovative resources, tools, and technologies to enhance library services for Colorado communities.

Ensures effectiveness through ongoing evaluation, process improvement, and identification of emerging needs.


Teamwork

Contributes actively to the development and achievement of unit goals and objectives.

Enhances professional knowledge through ongoing training, conferences, and committee participation, sharing acquired expertise with the team.

Participates actively in LSTA and special projects, including grant development and technical assistance to public libraries. 

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION  AND EXPERIENCE  REQUIREMENTS:
 Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) degree, Master of Library Science (MLS) or Public Administration Degree or seven (7) years of related experience.

Five (5) years of public library administration and/or Seven (7) years of public library upper management experience.

Knowledge of:
library science principles, practices, policies, standards, and emerging trends;
user-centered library services and programs;
library data management;
collection development and management;
reference and research services;
digital services;
library systems, technologies, and tools.

Skills in:
planning, management, and evaluation of projects;
high quality written and oral communication;
meeting management and presentation;
21st century technology skills.

Ability to:
lead and manage statewide library initiatives, including project development, implementation, evaluation, and funding acquisition.
build and maintain strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to achieve organizational goals.
provide expert guidance on library management best practices.
develop, deliver, and evaluate effective training and professional development opportunities.
effectively communicate complex information to diverse audiences.
apply strategic thinking to address challenges and opportunities in the library field.
foster collaboration and teamwork among library professionals.
coach and lead others by providing effective, responsive, timely consultation services.
