ABOUT THE TEAM
The Technical Access Services (TAS) team operates out of DPL’s Central Library, and is responsible for the receiving, cataloging, and processing of the library’s circulating collections, using a combination of outsourcing and in-house work. Collections are one of DPL’s core services, and the team strives for accurate and timely access and discoverability for its materials.
ABOUT THE POSITION
DPL is seeking a Cataloging Supervisor to join the TAS team, working downtown at our Central Library. Under the guidance of the TAS manager, this position creates positive experiences for library customers through leadership of our cataloging team. In addition to supervisory responsibilities, the position entails performing original and complex cataloging in a variety of formats and languages. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of new cataloging and metadata practices to represent our diverse collections, as well as the development of reparative cataloging practices.
The key responsibilities of the position include:
Review, develop, and implement, and document cataloging policies and procedures
Supervise a team of four catalogers, providing direction, support, feedback, and leadership to direct reports
Coordinate both regular workflow and special cataloging projects for the team, in collaboration with other library departments
Serve as an expert/lead on cataloging practices and policies within the cataloging team and throughout Denver Public Library
Prioritize the end user by balancing high quality cataloging with quick turnaround of materials
Serve as a key resource in understanding and troubleshooting cataloging issues that impact the ILS
Facilitate communication regarding the catalog as it impacts other departments and customers
Work with current and new vendors on outsourced cataloging by participating in account setup, managing record delivery, and quality control
Demonstrate initiative by developing processes that improve quality and efficiency of cataloging
Perform original and complex cataloging in a variety of formats and languages
Understand the bias in subject terms and classification, and collaborate with the library community to build more equitable cataloging practices
Organize and oversee projects aimed at improving discoverability of works in the collection
Provide excellent customer service to library staff and customers
Promote positive and productive workplace cultures
Ensure team alignment with organizational goals and values

You are confident in your cataloging skills and knowledge, comfortable with technology, and willing to learn new things. You will regularly use the following knowledge and abilities:
Knowledge of AACR2, RDA, MARC formats, authority control, Dewey Decimal Classification, and Library of Congress Subject Headings
Skill in using business software, OCLC Connexion, and MarcEdit
Ability to provide strong, compassionate leadership

Preferred Qualifications:
Previous supervisory experience, or other transferable leadership experience
Experience cataloging materials in languages other than English
Experience with Polaris ILS
Experience creating authority records
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education Requirement: Master’s degree in library and information science from ALA accredited institution of higher learning or equivalent degree in related field as required.
Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of supervisory experience in a retail or public service operational setting, or three (3) years of professional library experience with at least one (1) year in a leadership role.
Education and Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
License/Certification Requirement: By position, requires a valid driver's license at the time of application. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
