Job Description

The Rogers Free Library in Bristol, RI seeks to fill two part-time Library Assistant-Alternate positions. These positions include coverage of the Circulation, Reference, and Children’s service desks and works under the direct supervision of the department they are covering for.

The position is needed to fill hours as needed. The starting pay rate is $17.00 per hour.

The hours vary per week and include days, evenings, and weekends. There is no guaranteed minimum number of hours per week.

Tasks of position include: 

Complete circulation duties in the ILS system, including checking materials in/out, registering patrons for cards, locating materials online and in the library, and maintaining patron privacy.
Assist patrons with using and accessing library services and resources.
Promote library resources and programs.
Maintain the accuracy of items on the reserve and collection shelves.
Work the circulation, children’s, or reference desks during shifts as assigned.
Set up book carts and shelve materials efficiently.
Perform other related duties as assigned. 


Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED required (with advanced study, associate's degree or higher desirable).
Demonstrated “people” skills, both in person and over the phone, secured through retail, library, customer, or other public service experience (with previous library experience desirable).
Good work ethic, including punctuality in reporting for work, organizational skills, thoroughness in work completion, and attention to detail.
Ability to work well with the public and collaboratively as a member of a team.
Proficiency in computer skills and willingness to learn new applications.
Usual office working conditions.  Potential minimal exposure to noise, dust, inclement weather, and temperature fluctuations.
Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, and talk for potentially long periods.  This includes using a computer monitor, keyboard, and mouse to complete many of the assigned tasks, as well as the usual office equipment.
Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check.
