Job Description

● Provide leadership, structures, and expertise to ensure library programming, policies, procedures and services that are aligned with the mission, vision, and goals of the Library Board and school district 

● Oversees the Franklin Ferguson Library operation to include organizing and maintaining the collection, managing circulation, and ensuring a welcoming and functional library environment.

● Demonstrate flexibility, creativity and responsiveness in meeting the needs of the community, staff and students

● Select and acquire library materials, including books, periodicals, and digital resources, based on the needs and interests of the community and school district 

● Stay current with children’s, young adult literature, adult literature, literacy best practices, and library trends. 

●Work in partnership to provide regular guidance and direction to the library assistant: set goals & expectations, offer feedback, and provide training on library procedures, systems and tools.

● Develop instruction, programs, and/or environment for the community and students that support learning, discovery, creativity, and connection. 

● Establish respectful, collaborative relationships with school and district leaders, teachers, colleagues, students, families, and community members. 

● Curate, promote, and integrate print & digital resources in support of curriculum and instructional goals. 

● Demonstrate curiosity and a commitment to continual growth by engaging in and leading professional learning that aligns with practice and purpose. 

● Manage library budgets and resources effectively, including grant opportunities and new revenue sources, writing and management 

*Prepares necessary reports in cooperation with the board chairman and notifies the library board of scheduled meetings. Maintains a record of procedures and business which is readily accessible to board members. 

● Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional Info & Requirements

Requires a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Education and/or Library Science or willing to work towards a Master’s Degree with certification as a teacher-librarian.

● Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in library services or education. 

● Teaching and/or children’s & teen programming experience strongly preferred.

● Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and achieve outcomes

Valid teaching license from the Colorado Department of Education OR a bachelor's degree or higher in Library and Information Science

● Criminal background check

● Valid Colorado Driver’s License 

TECHNICAL SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: 

● Ability to work across multiple grade levels, content areas, and school buildings. 

● Advanced knowledge and experience with information literacy skills: research strategy instruction; digital content retrieval, curation, and promotion

● Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.
