
Part-time position to include days, one night and some weekend shifts (up to 19.5 hours). Library Technicians provide expert customer service to patrons of all ages. They provide support services to both library patrons and coworkers in using computers, applicable programs and other office equipment. Routine clerical tasks are performed using established policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND TASKS:
- Circulation duties involve checking in/out materials to patrons, placing holds, accepting and entering new library card applications, searching for titles, and collecting fines using an automated circulation system.
- Answer telephone, fulfill inquires, take messages or transfer calls to appropriate departments
- Assist patrons in locating materials, providing information, offer reading suggestions and guide patrons in the use of various types of office equipment.
- Maintain library materials, re-shelve items to appropriate location and shelf-read multiple collections including adult and children’s materials.
- Lift, carry bins and push carts containing a variety of materials including books, videos, magazines and more, weighing up to 75 pounds.
- Prepare rooms for library events by moving, setting up furniture and returning it to original placement for library events.
- Care for library spaces by completing cleaning tasks, straightening and organizing areas as needed.
- Performs duties and other related work as required.

The applicant must have the ability to communicate effectively, to adapt to change, to get along with others within a team approach, and have the capacity to be efficient with the use of computers and related equipment. Professional skills applicable to this position include being reliable, competent and conscientious.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL EFFORT:
The work includes some physically challenging work such as moving furniture, walking and standing for extended periods and relocating materials and equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
For consideration for this position, an applicant must have an interest in library service and have completed high school or its equivalency. Previous library experience is preferred.
