South Dakota State University’s (SDSU) Hilton M. Briggs Library welcomes applications for a faculty position at the Assistant Librarian rank. We seek an energetic, collaborative librarian with a passion for information literacy and student success. The successful candidate will coordinate the library’s first-year instruction initiatives, foster partnerships with campus units focused on student success, as well as provide reference, research, and instruction services. The position reports to the Head of Public Services, is located onsite in Brookings, South Dakota, and is full-time and benefits-eligible with a contract year of 12 months with a minimum salary of $70,000.
Key Responsibilities Include:
· Coordinates library curriculum and instructional activities for general education courses in written and oral communication, first-year experience seminars, and other courses targeting first-year students in collaboration with other librarians and departmental program coordinators.
· Engages in outreach and collaboration with key campus partners that support the first-year experience, e.g., student success, tutoring centers, admissions, and other areas of SDSU.
· Serves as subject librarian for the School of Communication and Journalism, the School of English and Interdisciplinary Studies, and/or other academic units as assigned, providing collection development, library instruction, and research assistance.
· Provides reference service in person and via chat at a general service desk, including staffing weekend and evening shifts as assigned.
· Serves the library, SDSU, and the profession through committee work and other contributions.
