Job Description

The Abbott Library (Sunapee, NH) is looking for a dynamic and creative individual to be our Youth Services Librarian. Due to an internal promotion, we seek an enthusiastic innovator who is motivated to instill a life-long love of libraries in our youngest patrons. This is a full-time role that reports to the Library Director.

Duties specific to the position include:

·        development, maintenance and cataloging of the youth, teen and parenting collections, including materials budget management;

·        planning programming for toddlers, preschoolers, and elementary, middle, and high school students and their families, including seasonal reading      programs, and presentations;

·        readers’ advisory for youth, parents and caregivers;

·        initiating and engaging in frequent community outreach.

General library duties will include assisting patrons, registering new patrons, data entry and special projects. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of youth literature and programming, enjoy working with children, have excellent technology skills, and be personable, cheerful, and professional.

The Abbott Library is a welcoming and professional environment that enjoys tremendous support from its community. Abbott serves a community of approximately 3400 year-round residents and a large seasonal community. The building is new as of 2014, and offers an expansive children’s area with plenty of activities and seating, a large Activities Room with cubbies and space for a wide variety of programming, and a separate teen space.
