Job Description

Senior Language Library Specialist (Spanish)

Champion Language Access and Community Connection
Are you a bilingual professional who loves welcoming every patron and guiding them to the right resources? Join our team and strengthen how Spanish language services support immigrant and multilingual communities.
Southglenn Library is seeking a Senior Language Library Specialist (Spanish) to provide friendly, inclusive service in both English and Spanish at one branch. You will support patrons, assist colleagues, and help Spanish-speaking community members feel at home in the library.

About the Role
Based at a single library location, you'll work closely with branch teammates and Language Librarians to meet Spanish-speaking patrons' needs, promote programs, and maintain language resources. This role centers on patron assistance, Spanish collection care, everyday technology help, staff training, program and outreach support, and translation work to keep the library a trusted hub for learning and connection.

Key Responsibilities
Patron Assistance and Collection Maintenance

  • Greet visitors, handle library account questions and cash transactions in English and Spanish
  • Offer intermediate advisory and reference help with emphasis on Spanish materials and immigrant resources
  • Assist with printers, computers, Wi-Fi, digital media stations, and e-resources; escalate complex tech needs as needed
  • Maintain, merchandise, and shelve Spanish and immigrant-focused collections, create displays, and keep spaces welcoming
  • Answer Language Hunt calls in Spanish and relay patron feedback through proper channels

Training and Shadowing

  • Provide on-the-job training for Library Specialists, modeling effective use of Spanish resources and correct procedures
  • Share constructive feedback and collaborate with Learning and Development staff to improve training content

Language Programming and Outreach Support

  • Assist Language Librarians during in-branch programs and outreach, and serve as backup presenter when needed
  • Support ELA class registration, technology distribution, and community events; may lead programs such as storytime

Learning and Collaboration

  • Stay current on library technology, policies, and trends; actively pursue learning opportunities
  • Collaborate with colleagues across departments to address patron needs and support inclusive service

Translation Team Collaboration
Translate and review library documents into Spanish, edit for format consistency, and contribute to the shared glossary

What You'll Bring

  • Bilingual Communication: Advanced oral and written Spanish and English for clear, welcoming service
  • Customer Service Skills: Proven ability to assist patrons, handle cash transactions, and de-escalate concerns
  • Technology Troubleshooting: Comfortable guiding patrons through common tech tasks and basic problem-solving
  • Collection Care: Experience shelving, merchandising, and maintaining language-focused materials
  • Training Mindset: Eagerness to empower others by modeling services and explaining tools, whether it's showing a teammate how to support Spanish-speaking patrons or helping someone print a document or navigate an online resource
  • Cultural Awareness: Deep understanding of immigrant experiences and the needs of Spanish-speaking patrons

Qualifications
Required:

  • Two years of library experience, including advisory and reference work
  • Advanced Spanish and English fluency verified by assessment
  • Flexible schedule with evenings, weekends, and occasional district-wide travel

Preferred:

  • Experience with translation or interpretation
  • Familiarity with Adobe software
