
Library Specialist, Part-time, 20 Hours

About the Role
Castlewood Library is a warm, neighborhood branch known for its friendly staff, diverse patrons, and creative makerspace. In this vital frontline role, you'll greet patrons with care, assist with materials and technology, and ensure that every visitor feels seen and supported. Your flexibility and collaborative spirit will help our branch stay connected and responsive to the community's evolving needs.
Key Responsibilities
Patron Assistance and Materials Handling
- Welcome patrons, answer questions, and assist with accounts and resources
- Promote programs and services while maintaining an inviting and inclusive environment
- Process, shelve, and display materials with accuracy and care
- Work scheduled shifts that include closing duties on Mondays and every other weekend
Technology Assistance
- Support patrons using public computers, mobile devices, and printing tools
- Provide basic troubleshooting and help with reservable tech and spaces
- Navigate the Integrated Library System to manage patron and collection needs
Learning and Development
- Stay current on library services and digital tools
- Share knowledge and collaborate with teammates
- Embrace opportunities for learning and continuous improvement
Community Engagement
- Connect authentically with patrons from all backgrounds
- Help set expectations and boundaries with empathy and clarity
- Reflect library values in every interaction, especially around equity, inclusion, and respect
Qualifications
Required
- At least one year of experience in customer service, libraries, or education/teaching
- Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings and every other weekend
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications (Word, Excel, Outlook), Microsoft Edge, and Microsoft Teams
- Comfort serving patrons of all ages and from diverse backgrounds
- Curiosity and willingness to explore and learn library technologies alongside patrons
- Ability to clearly communicate new ideas, services, and resources in a positive and engaging way
- Enthusiasm for working in an environment of continual growth and change
Preferred
Experience working with children and teens
Schedule Requirement
This part-time position follows a consistent two-week rotating schedule. Please review the hours carefully to ensure they align with your availability. Evening and weekend hours are required.
Week One
• Sunday: 12:00 PM - 5:00 PM
• Monday: 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM
• Tuesday: Off
• Wednesday: Off
• Thursday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
• Friday: Off
• Saturday: Off
Week Two
• Sunday: Off
• Monday: 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM
• Tuesday: Off
• Wednesday: Off
• Thursday: 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM
• Friday: Off
• Saturday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
This schedule repeats every two weeks. Candidates must be able to commit to this rotating schedule.
