The Opportunity:
We are looking for a dynamic, positive and solutions-oriented leader who will continue to promote a welcoming atmosphere and build upon the exceptional level of friendly, community-centered service for which our library is known. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team-builder who can inspire staff, work constructively with stakeholders, and ensure that the library remains a valued and visible cornerstone of the community.
Key Responsibilities:
● Provide leadership for all aspects of library operations at the MLM Library.
● Supervise and support all department heads; promote a culture of collegiality, respect, and innovation.
● Maintain high visibility within the library, engaging with staff, assisting patrons, and modeling excellence in public service.
● Cultivate and maintain cordial, professional relationships with the Town Council, Town Manager, and other municipal departments.
● Proactively represents the library within the community, and with regional and statewide library organizations.
● Oversee budgeting, planning, and policy development in collaboration with the Library Board of Trustees.
● Lead efforts in programming, technology integration, and community outreach to anticipate and meet the evolving needs of a diverse patron base.
● Work with our enthusiastic, dedicated and long-established Friends of the MLM Library.

Qualifications:
● Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution.
● Progressively responsible library experience, including at least 5 years in a supervisory or administrative role.
● Proven leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
● Strong commitment to public service, intellectual freedom, and community engagement.
● Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with government officials, staff, and the public.
● Experience in facilities planning and library construction/transition projects is a plus.
Start Date: Sept 10, 2025 or as soon as possible
The Maury Loontjens Memorial Library, located in the picturesque seaside town of Narragansett, RI (population 14,500), is seeking an enthusiastic and visionary Library Director to lead our dedicated staff at our new, state-of-the-art public library facility. Our library serves a vibrant and diverse community that includes residents, university students and a growing influx of summer visitors.
