Job Summary: St. George’s School is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant Director of Library Services. Reporting to the Director, the Assistant Director of Library Services plays a key role in supporting the school’s educational goals. The Assistant Director promotes a dynamic and welcoming service-oriented library program that focuses on the educational needs of the entire school community. Along with the Director and faculty, the Assistant Director shares responsibility for teaching students to develop research skills, while promoting and maintaining information literacy standards. The Assistant Director supports the Director to implement the Library Mission Statement and programmatic initiatives, to enhance the library’s web presence and social media, and to work with the Director to ensure compliance with OSL policies.
Major Responsibilities:
- coordinating & teaching Information Literacy instruction sessions
- serving as Circulation Head, creating and maintaining LibGuides pages to support the program
- managing the library’s social media accounts
- making recommendations for digital and physical collection development
- cataloging library materials
- coordinating the student Library Advisory Board
- taking responsibility for the daily operation of the facility in the absence of the Director as needed
- representing St. George’s at quarterly Ocean State Libraries consortium (OSL) Circulation Heads meetings
Additional responsibilities:
- The Assistant Director participates in faculty committees, Mission SG, service activities, and in the daily life of a boarding school.
Skills and Qualifications:
- ALA-accredited MLS.
- Experience teaching information literacy instruction is strongly preferred.
- Preference will be given to candidates with college, university, or independent school library experience.
- Commitment to diversity and to cultivating an inclusive and equitable school culture.
- Strong interpersonal, facilitation, and communication skills.
- A sense of humor, warmth, and a willingness to bring joy to the work.
