Assistant Supervisor, Full Time, Sheridan Library

Arapahoe Libraries is seeking an Assistant Library Supervisor to help lead daily operations at Sheridan Library. Your supportive leadership will help maintain the library as a welcoming and dependable place where people of all ages can explore, discover, and feel a sense of belonging.

About the Role
Sheridan Library serves a diverse and vibrant community and is home to a team of dedicated staff who reflect the neighborhood's welcoming spirit. This branch supports a large Spanish-speaking population, making cultural awareness and language sensitivity key to delivering excellent service. Sheridan is a popular afterschool destination for youth and teens, offering a supportive space for engagement, creativity, and social connection. As an Assistant Library Supervisor, you'll help lead this team by supporting day-to-day operations, mentoring staff, and fostering a culture of service excellence. Sheridan's unique community partnerships and hightouch service model offer opportunities to make a direct impact while contributing to districtwide goals.

Key Responsibilities
Customer Relations and Patron Assistance

  • Build positive relationships with patrons and staff, modeling inclusive, people centered service.
  • Welcome all visitors and provide proactive assistance with advisory, reference, and technology needs.
  • Promote library resources, programs, and services while ensuring a safe and engaging environment.
  • Resolve concerns from patrons and staff with empathy and sound decision making.

Supervisor and Team Support

  • Support the Library Supervisor in managing day‑to‑day operations, including scheduling and prioritizing tasks.
  • Assist in hiring, training, mentoring, and performance feedback for team members.
  • Act as the supervisor in charge when the Library Supervisor is not available.
  • Help coordinate team meetings, professional development, and staff recognition.

Team Leadership and Mentoring

  • Lead by example, encouraging collaboration, open communication, and shared ownership of service goals.
  • Work alongside staff, offering feedback and support to promote a cohesive, high performing team.
  • Champion positive change and foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

Learning and Development

  • Stay current on library resources, trends, and technologies to better support staff and patrons.
  • Engage with internal communications to ensure consistent and informed service delivery.
  • Take the initiative to expand personal skills and knowledge in alignment with the library's mission.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Two years of library experience providing direct service to patrons.
  • Experience training, teaching, or mentoring others.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and support team priorities.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends. Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability to learn new technologies.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of library online resources and advisory services across formats.
  • Experience working with children and teens.
  • Spanish language skills or cultural competency in serving Spanish speaking populations.

The Arapahoe Library District operates eight branch libraries, including mobile library services, and a library at the County Detention Center, funded by the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Department.
