Job Description

BiblioTemps® is an employment service of the Massachusetts Library Systemthat provides experienced library workers for temporary placements in public, academic, and special libraries throughout Massachusetts.

Title:                GIS & Data Coordinator

Location:         Union of Concerned Scientists

Remote (New England Residents Only)

Position Type: Temporary

Start date:       August 11, 2025

End date:        November 14, 2025

Schedule:        Monday–Friday 9am–5pm

Pay Rate:        $25.00 per hour

Summary of Responsibilities:

The temporary GIS Coordinator will provide project support for analytical staff at UCS. They will also provide support for project and data lifecycles.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

The essential job duties/responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the information listed below:

  • Scope, develop, design ArcGIS Story maps for rapid response
  • Create maps or charts with analytic staff for research products
  • Support data archiving and sharing best practices, such as use of data repository and GitHub
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS or QGIS, and Python or R
  • Offer individualized consultative services supporting needs in areas such as high-performance computing, text and data mining, data collection, automation, and mapping.

Basic Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in a field such as science, computer science, social science, political science, English, communications/marketing and one to two years of comparable experience.
  • Current or recent Master’s degree students are encouraged to apply.
  • Either data curation or database management experience with knowledge of FAIR principles.
  • This position requires strong research, written, oral, relationship-building, and scholarly communications skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, including the ability to simultaneously manage and prioritize many tasks, and strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to learn new technological tools, applications, and techniques continuously is desirable.
  • Positive, team-oriented attitude; ability to work in an environment that can become fast-paced near deadlines.
