Title of Position: Librarian I – Reference Librarian

Salary Range: $28.30/hr - $36.72/hr 

Part time – 19 hours per week 

Work Schedule will include nights and weekends

Statement of Duties: Under the general supervision of Coordinator of Adult Services, the Librarian I-Reference performs duties pertaining to adult services including patron assistance, planning and presentation of programs, and collection development. 

Duties may include: 

• Answers in-person, telephone and e-mail questions; assisting with teen services. 

• Helps patrons select and locate materials. 

• Provides reference and reader’s advisory service to middle and high school students, college students and out-of-school adults. 

• Develops, plans and conducts programs for adults. 

• Keeps current regarding trends in reference services. 

• Attends meetings and participates in professional library organizations. 

• Conducts class tours for middle and high school classes. 

• Provides bibliographic instruction and gives book talks and reviews. 

• Evaluates and manages current collection by applying collection development methods and techniques. 

• Selects materials for branch libraries. 

• Develops and prepares bibliographies, maintains various files and maintains webpage. 

• Plans and arranges displays. 

• Supervises paraprofessional and clerical staff. 

• Assumes responsibility for the department in the absence of the department head. 

• Performs additional related duties as required. 

Education & Experience: Master’s degree (M.A.) in Library Science from an ALA-accredited library school or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
