Job Description

Westwood Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic, service-oriented, and forward-thinking Public Services Librarian to join our team. The ideal candidate will enjoy working with the public, be passionate about supporting community needs, and be comfortable working in a team-driven environment.  This position plays a key role in delivering excellent public service at the Information Desk and at the Islington Branch Library, coordinating existing programs such as Passport Application Acceptance and Notary Public Services, and exploring new opportunities to evolve public library service. This position will also plan and coordinate public events and serve on the library’s internal Bookmobile Committee and Communication Team.  The position reports to the Director of Information and Branch Services.

Key Responsibilities

     Staffs the Information Desk, assisting patrons with research, technology, and library resources while ensuring a welcoming and helpful experience.

     Coordinates Passport Acceptance Services, Notary Public Services, and Homebound Delivery Program, ensuring they are provided with accuracy, efficiency, and excellent customer service.

     Plans library events and programs for adults–including workshops, lectures, Great Decisions, and technology classes. 

     Participates in the Library’s Communications and Marketing Team, contributing to social media, newsletters, website content, promotional materials, and public relations efforts.

     Manages the monthly Art Gallery exhibit and creates engaging displays highlighting library services.

     Collects and analyzes program statistics, surveys, and reports to assess and strengthen services.

     Builds strong working relationships with patrons, staff, volunteers, Town departments, and other external organizations to ensure a positive library experience.

      Participates in library outreach efforts and serves as a member of Bookmobile Committee.

Qualifications

  • Master's in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program required.
  • 2-3 years of related public library service experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of passport acceptance procedures and/or notary services (or willingness to become certified/trained).
  • Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
  •  Experience with marketing and communications, including social media and design tools (Adobe Illustrator, Canva, Microsoft Publisher, etc.).
  •  Proficiency with integrated library systems, online databases, and technology instruction.
  •  Commitment to core library values: equity, diversity, inclusion, intellectual freedom, and patron privacy.
Benefits & Additional Compensation Info
The position is full-time, 35 hours per week, including one evening per week and one Saturday per month.  Westwood offers a comprehensive benefits package and generous vacation allowance.
