Description
Senior Librarian (Youth Services Manager): The purpose of this position is to manage the daily operations of the assigned library unit, promote and support library services, develop programs to engage the community, and respond to customer needs with excellent customer service. This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.
Examples of Duties
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
- Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
- Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
- Coordinates programming for all ages through planning, scheduling, delegation, partnerships, contract development and facilitation.
- Collections development, request books, films, etc. from the Acquisitions department to support programs.
- Completes training classes and attend professional development seminars, workshops and conferences to learn and maintain skills and knowledge for professional growth.
- Works reference desk and answers research, informational, readers' advisory, and technology queries with a high degree of accuracy and provide excellent customer service.
- Assists library patrons with computer use and library technology.
- Records program statistics, compiles and submits monthly reports.
- Plans and monitors unit budgets, reconciles cash receipts for the day and for bank deposits.
- Researches and evaluates vendors for new or existing services, collections, and formats.
- Monitors maintenance and upkeep of facility.
- Performs related work as assigned.
