Mission
The Beaufort County Library serves and supports the
community for learning, for leisure, for life.
Vision
The Beaufort County Library System is a free and accessible
center of ideas, information, and resources that foster learning, community,
and literacy. The Library provides open and guided access to a wide variety of
media and programs to inform, inspire, and empower people in their pursuit of
lifelong learning, personal enrichment, and cultural understanding.
We are
governed by a Library
Board of Trustees who are appointed by Beaufort County Council. The
Library system is a department of Beaufort County
Government.
Beaufort County is one of South Carolina’s fastest-growing
communities, situated along the Atlantic coast between Charleston, SC and
Savannah, GA. We believe our vision statement truly reflects our community, as
Beaufort County is “one of the most desirable places in the United States to
live, work, and enjoy a sense of community in a culturally diverse coastal
setting.”
Beaufort County is rich in history, culturally diverse, and home to a pristine natural outdoor environment, registered historic districts, three military installations, award-winning educational systems, fine dining, shopping, and so much more! Beaufort has also recently been designated as the site for the Reconstruction Era National Monument.
The Beaufort Library is our main library and is nestled in
the heart of historic, downtown Beaufort. Housed in this building are the
public library, library administration, Technical Services, and our special local history and archives department, the Beaufort
District Collection. To enter the library, please use the Scott Street
entrance. It is important to note that the City of Beaufort owns the
parking lot, and the parking spaces are metered. Bike rack available
outside. The Beaufort County Library includes 6 library locations/branches, two
bookmobiles, and a new station of library lockers for hold pick-ups.
