This position reports to the Deputy Chief Librarian for Public Services and leads strategic initiatives to expand awareness, access, and engagement with Jacksonville Public Library services, programs, and resources.
This Manager for Library Outreach (MLO) plays a key role in coordinating staff participation at community events, developing outreach efforts that bring residents into library spaces, and ensuring equitable access to library offerings beyond our physical locations. The MLO builds relationships and fosters connections with individuals and organizations across Jacksonville’s diverse communities. They provide leadership, supervision, training, and guidance to staff involved in outreach, ensuring that services are inclusive, impactful, and aligned with the Library’s mission. -
Examples of Work

- Establish system-wide outreach goals and objectives in alignment with the Library’s Strategic Agenda
- Identify and prioritize target populations through community needs assessments and stakeholder input
- Plan, develop, coordinate, promote, and evaluate outreach initiatives
- Represent the Library at external programs and events, serving as a visible and engaged community partner
- Solicit and respond to requests for outreach service from individuals and agencies in the community
- Coordinate the Library’s participation in community events, including activity planning, staff assignments, and volunteer scheduling
- Initiate and cultivate partnerships that advance the Library’s mission and expand its reach
- Collaborate with organizations in the community to deliver services and promote resources
- Serve as the primary contact for community groups and individuals seeking outreach services
- Actively seek opportunities to increase public use of library programs and resources, enhancing visibility and impact
- Support the overall mission of the library by providing customer service in a manner that creates a positive customer experience.
- Work with diverse populations to provide services in a non-judgmental and non-discriminatory manner
- Communicate clear direction, manage for results, and lead organizational change
- Assign responsibility, take corrective action, demonstrate leadership in evaluating, developing, and motivating employees
- Perform related work as required.

Open Requirements/Supplemental Information

- A Bachelor’s from an accredited institution of higher education with at least four (4) years of proven, progressively responsible management/decision-making positions in library environments.
- A Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program is preferred.
- Future-oriented, can articulate a vision of possibilities and the likelihoods of their success. Has broad knowledge and perspective.
- Experience with managing or guiding innovative solutions from idea generation and planning stages through implementation.
- Ability to inspire and motivate entire units of the organization, and to communicate a compelling and inspired vision.
- Adeptly manages change, comfortably shifts gears, and manages risk and uncertainty. Decisive and action oriented without having the total picture.
- Adaptive and responsive management style with triage skills to quickly prioritize tasks.
- Strong analytical, conceptual and communication skills that foster a creative approach to balancing risk and reward in problem-solving.
- Ability to relate well and build appropriate rapport and relationships with a variety of people in all levels of the organization, as well as people outside the organization.
- Uses diplomacy and tact and can diffuse even high-tension situations comfortably.
