Blending Service with Connection and Curiosity

Arapahoe Libraries is seeking a Blended Barista and Library Specialist for The Space, a new community hub offering meeting rooms, a cafe and select library services. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys fast-paced café work, excels at customer service, and thrives in a warm, cooperative team environment. If you are organized, attentive, proactive, and energized by helping others, you will feel right at home here.

About the Role

This blended position supports both our café and the main concierge desk. When you are working in the café, you will prepare beverages and food items, maintain a clean and safe workspace, manage transactions, and create an inviting experience for every visitor. Because The Space is a brand-new offering for Arapahoe Libraries, processes are still evolving. Candidates should be fast learners who adapt easily and bring a calm and positive approach to a changing environment.

When you are scheduled at the concierge desk, you will welcome patrons, assist with meeting room reservations, provide basic technology support, issue or update library cards, and accept materials returns. You will balance multiple tasks, communicate clearly, and maintain grace under pressure. This role is an excellent fit for someone who works hard while keeping a light and friendly presence, enjoys variety, and values a collaborative, ego-free team culture.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service and Café Operations

  • Welcome every patron warmly to create a friendly, inviting atmosphere.
  • Take orders, prepare beverages and food items, process payments, and manage cash drawers with accuracy.
  • Maintain a clean and organized café environment that meets all food safety standards.
  • Restock supplies, follow opening and closing procedures, and support smooth workflow during busy periods.

Concierge Support, Meeting Room Assistance, and Patron Services

  • Provide friendly and knowledgeable service at the concierge desk.
  • Help patrons reserve meeting rooms and navigate room-use procedures and equipment.
  • Issue and update library cards, receive returns, and answer account questions clearly.
  • Assist with basic technology needs such as Wi-Fi access, printing, and simple troubleshooting.
  • Share information about library resources, digital tools, and community events.
  • Support small-scale catering or meeting needs when requested.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support projects and initiatives that strengthen community engagement.
  • Assist Friends of the Library volunteers with related cash-handling activities.
  • Contribute to displays, promotions, and service improvements that enhance the patron experience.

What You Will Bring

Customer Service and Communication: You enjoy connecting with people and offer clear, friendly, patient service in every interaction.

Organization and Attention to Detail: You maintain orderly spaces, follow procedures accurately, and take pride in consistent, dependable work.

Proactive Mindset and Initiative: You anticipate needs, step in where help is needed, and take action without waiting to be prompted.

Resilience, Adaptability, and Grace Under Pressure: You stay calm and flexible in a fast-paced, changing environment and learn new systems quickly.

Teamwork and Collaboration: You support a positive and cooperative team environment, work well with others, and bring an ego-free mindset to shared work.

Catering and Event Support Experience or Interest: You are comfortable assisting with simple catering or meeting room support when needed.

Equity Focused Perspective: You welcome diversity, foster inclusion, and ensure every patron feels respected, valued, and supported.

Alignment to ALD Core Values: You demonstrate collaboration, equity, and innovation in your daily work and interactions.

  • Intermediate technology skills (Microsoft 365) and the ability to learn new systems.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including evenings and weekends.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to travel between facilities as needed.

Preferred

  • Experience in beverage or food preparation.
  • Cash register or point-of-sale experience.
  • Experience supporting café openings, new business launches, or similarly evolving environments.
