About the Opportunity

The Public Services Assistant performs basic public service and library support services to contribute to the Library District's effective operation, providing library services, spaces, and resources that are representative of diverse cultures and perspectives, intentionally inclusive, and accessible to everyone. Possible tasks for this position may include but are not limited to covering circulation desk shifts, assisting customers with basic printer or computer questions, shelving as needed, and pulling and processing reports.

The person selected for the position will work a 15-hour-per-week schedule, which may include morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend shifts. The successful candidate for this position must be available to work a Friday through Sunday schedule, and may be required to adapt to future schedule and location changes depending on library needs.

The Lake Stevens Library is a medium-sized library centrally located within the East District of Sno-Isle Libraries service area. The City of Lake Stevens is a rapidly growing and diverse community that surrounds the largest natural lake in Snohomish County. The Lake Stevens Library is open seven days a week, offering programming, collections, and services that largely focus on early learning, children, and families. Sno-Isle Libraries is currently in the design phase of a new Lake Stevens building, which is anticipated to open in 2026. The Granite Falls Library serves the fast-growing community of Granite Falls and its surrounding area. Nestled in the shadows of the beautiful Cascade Mountains, Granite Falls abounds with scenic vistas and outdoor recreational activities.  The library provides the public with a varied selection of material to browse and checkout as well the important services of computer, internet and Wi-Fi access.  The Granite Falls Library strives to serve all customers, but has placed a high priority on promoting early childhood literacy.

This position is part of a bargaining unit represented by AFSCME Council 2.

Job Location: Lake Stevens and Granite Falls, WA

Essential Functions

  1. Provide assistance at the library circulation desk, answers phones, checks library materials in and out, registers customers for library cards, and orders various library materials.
  2. Assist customers with self-checkout machines and answers questions in the hold areas.
  3. Return library materials to proper locations and supports circulation duties.
  4. Provide assistance to library customers with basic reference questions.
  5. Respond to technical services calls and assists with problems with the fax machines, public copiers, pay-for-print stations, vending machines, and printers.
  6. Submit and monitor technical reports for library technology service issues.
  7. Perform other public service and general clerical support tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position can be acquired by a combination of experience and education including:

  1. High School diploma or G.E.D. required.
  2. These skills and abilities typically are acquired through completion of secondary school or equivalent together with several months in a customer service environment.

Pay Range: $21.63 - $29.75 hourly
