Furman University seeks a dynamic, collaborative, and innovative library professional for the newly created Scholarly Communications Librarian. The successful candidate will cultivate a network of campus partners to establish priorities, services, and tools for a new scholarly communications program. This position will provide leadership and expertise in the areas of scholarly publishing, open access, affordable learning, and copyright.
Job Duties
- Establishing a scholarly communications program

- Providing advice on copyright and author rights
- Participating in faculty responsibilities
- Salary commensurate with experience (minimum $70,000).

Minimum Qualifications
- ALA-accredited MLIS or equivalent degree
- Three years of relevant work experience
- Knowledge of current trends and issues in open access, copyright, and other areas of scholarly communication
- Excellent communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to cultivate positive professional relationships
- Demonstrated ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively with colleagues
Preferred Qualifications
- Academic library experience
- Experience managing an institutional repository
- Familiarity with accessibility best practices

The Furman University Libraries are the James B. Duke Library, the Sanders Science Library, and the Maxwell Music Library. The Libraries are often described as “the heart of campus” and seek to create a welcoming environment where every member of the Furman community can connect, discover, and learn. The Furman Libraries are a member of the Oberlin Group consortium of liberal arts college libraries and PASCAL (The Partnership of Academic South Carolina Libraries). They use a shared Alma/Primo library services platform and Digital Commons as their institutional repository. Librarians are non-tenured faculty and are eligible for promotion. Librarians have the option to advise undergraduate students (through the Pathways Program), teach MayX classes to students, accompany study away programs, or organize Cultural Life Program events, if interested.
