YOUTH SERVICES SUPERVISOR
SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Library Director, the Youth Services Supervisor is responsible for reference and information service for the children’s and young adults areas, materials selection for children’s and young adult areas, circulation services, community engagement and leads one of the two program teams. The position is a member of the Management Team, leader of a staff team and will serve as a Supervisor in Charge as scheduled.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines:
Master’s Degree in Library Service from an ALA accredited school
3-5 years of experience in a public library OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Knowledge of:
· City policies and procedures.
· Regulations and standards governing public library operations.
· Public library programs, policies, and procedures.
· Child and Youth Development.
· Current library automation trends and experience in implementation of developing technologies.
· Reference and reading advisory, resources and practices.
· Collection development and management.
· Cataloging and processing procedures.
· Dewey Decimal System.
· Basic computer functions.
· Basic database administration rules and procedures.
· Safety rules and regulations, occupational hazards, and safety precautions in public facilities.
Skill in:
· Delivering quality library programs and services to the community.
· Selection and maintenance of library collections.
· Applying library research methods and practices
· Interacting with people of different social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds.
· Operating a personal computer and specialized software and equipment (for example, printers, facsimile, telephones, mobile devices, iPad, Kindle).
· Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers and local agencies.
· Effective verbal and written communication.
· Ability to acquire a thorough knowledge of Library activities.
Desirable Special Qualifications:
· Experience with circulation systems
· Bilingual in English and Spanish
· Experience with managing library staff or volunteers.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Master’s Degree from an ALA accredited school.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
· Work is performed in a standard office and public library environment.
· Ability to maintain physical condition and stamina appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include sitting, standing or walking for extended period of time, driving, riding in vehicles.
· The usual requirements require the ability to stand for 4 hours at a time, lift up to 25 pounds, and push a loaded book truck weighing up to 120 pounds.
· Work may require lifting boxes of supplies, equipment and adjustment of furniture.
· Position requires frequent bending, reading squatting and lifting. The employee may occasionally work in moderately high places.
· Specific hearing abilities required by this job include computer pings, phone rings, and public conversations.
· Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
· Ability to perform duties and adapt to flexible work schedules as established by management, which may include fairly irregular schedules, long hours, weekends and evenings. May be called when needed.
PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
· Must be able to pass a rigid background investigation including work history, criminal records, driving records and other records deemed necessary.
· Must possess and maintain a Class D Driver’s License issued by the state of New Mexico.
· Pre-employment drug screen administered by city designated facility.
CONDITIONS OF CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT:
· Incumbents and candidates must have a satisfactory driving record and insurability in accordance with the City’s insurance carrier.

The Roswell Public Library has an active youth department. We offer weekly toddler programs in English only and English and Spanish, weekly preschool programs in English only and English and Spanish. We have a Makerspace which is used for STEAM classes twice a month. Our Charlie Cart is used for monthly cooking club. The 4-H coordinates a monthly program. We have started a gaming club that meets weekly. We have planned our summer reading program and it features weekly special performances. We have several customized items created by the Burgeon Group designed to promote early literacy skill. We are in the process of creating an outdoor musical garden that include instruments from Percussion Play. Our ideal candidate works well in a team to serve both English and Spanish speakers.
The City of Roswell is located in southeastern New Mexico in Chavez County and has a population approaching 50,000. Though Roswell is a smaller city, it offers a variety of attractions and services. Roswell functions as the administrative and economic center of Chaves County and is one of the most visited tourist destinations in the region. It also serves as the regional node for transportation, public services, and employment. The city is known for the Roswell Incident and we host a UFO Festival in July. We also host the International Air Races, and the Eastern New Mexico State Fair. The fair is big, as we have a large ranching community in Chaves County. Our community includes both English and Spanish Speakers.
