Job Description

Branch Supervisor, Castlewood Library

Are you a steady, people-centered supervisor who enjoys coaching staff, solving day-to-day challenges, and keeping a team grounded when plans change? At Castlewood Library, you'll supervise a public-facing team, balancing daily operations and shifting priorities while working alongside staff to provide steady, welcoming service.

Arapahoe Libraries is seeking a Branch Supervisor to oversee daily library operations, support and mentor staff, and ensure welcoming, inclusive service for all community members. If your leadership experience comes from libraries, another public sector setting, or a community-facing team in another industry, we welcome that. What matters most is how you support people, make thoughtful decisions, and keep service strong.

About the Role

Castlewood Library serves a diverse community and sits in a mix of neighborhoods, schools, and local businesses. You'll stay close to the day-to-day work of the branch, helping staff navigate what is in front of them, keeping coverage and priorities clear, and making sure the space remains welcoming and respectful for everyone who comes in. You'll also stay connected with colleagues across the system to share information, coordinate support, and keep things running smoothly.

Key Responsibilities

Operations

  • Support daily library operations by allocating resources, planning and prioritizing work, and making decisions that ensure the library functions smoothly.
  • Troubleshoot building and equipment issues and communicate with other library departments as needed.
  • Create monthly staff schedules to ensure appropriate coverage and adjust as needed due to callouts or changing conditions.
  • Provide a minimum of four hours per week assisting patrons at a service point.
  • Support collection maintenance and materials handling as needed.

Supervision and Leadership

  • Recruit, interview, hire, and train staff to support successful onboarding and job performance.
  • Oversee scheduling, timekeeping, and daily supervision of employees.
  • Monitor employee performance, provide timely feedback, support professional development, and deliver evaluations.
  • Handle discipline and terminations in accordance with practice.
  • Work alongside staff and provide guidance as needed.
  • Promote open communication, collaboration, and team building.
  • Work regular evening and weekend shifts and serve on call in crisis situations.
  • In collaboration with Library Managers and Librarians, assist with branch-level planning.

Customer and Community Relations

  • Promote positive working relationships with staff and patrons.
  • De-escalate and resolve concerns from patrons and employees by researching issues, identifying solutions, and making decisions.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community members, which may include outreach to community groups.

What You Will Bring

People-first supervision: You are an experienced leader and have supported teams that work directly with the public. You set clear expectations, stay present, and follow through, so people know what they can count on from you.

Coaching approach: You help people grow. You're direct, respectful, and open to feedback and opportunities for personal and professional growth.

Problem solving: You're comfortable making decisions, even when things are unclear or changing. You don't get stuck, and you help others keep moving.

Scheduling and coordination: You've built schedules, adjusted for callouts, and kept coverage steady without creating confusion for the team.

Comfort with technology: You use everyday tools with confidence and are open to learning new ones. You help others get there, too.

Collaboration and connection: You work well with others, communicate clearly, and build strong working relationships. You care about how people experience the library, both staff and patrons.

Qualifications
Required:

  • Two to four years of successful supervisory experience with demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and develop staff.
  • Two years of similar or related experience, such as library service or customer service.
  • Experience teaching, training, or mentoring others.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work varying shifts, including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to travel between facilities.
  • Intermediate technology skills using Microsoft 365 and the ability to learn new tools.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • One year of library experience.
  • Experience working with children and teens.
