Assistant Director at the North Providence Union Free Library
A full-time (35 hours) opening is available.

We are looking for someone who is outgoing, friendly and welcoming. Must have the
ability deal tactfully and courteously with the public and Library staff members. The
candidate should be comfortable with budgeting and financial matters. Should adept at
using social media and be technologically current and curious. All applicants should
have an accredited MLS or MLIS degree, and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a
management position.

Assistant Director– Detailed Job Description
Overview: The Assistant Library Director provides strategic and functional oversight of
library services and operations. Serves as Acting Library Director in the absence of the
Director. The Assistant Director participates in planning, high-level decision making,
leadership and mentoring to all employees.
Management: Manages a staff of 30 full and part time employees.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Provides leadership, guidance and direction to staff. Sets goals and objectives and
resolves problems.
Serves as Acting Director in the absence of the Director.
Plays a role in strategic planning and service innovation.
Manages special projects and tasks at the discretion of the Director and provides
updates and reports to stakeholders as necessary or requested.

Monitors current budget of the Library including paying of library invoices.
Responsible for payroll.
Represents the Library at Town, State and Professional meetings and events.
Oversees Collection Development and management of Adult Fiction collection as well
as Video and Audio collections.
Keeps informed of current library services, technology, policies and management
practices with an eye on bring innovation and improvement to the Library.
Serves as Human Recourses Administrator including the onboarding of new staff;
liaison with Town HR Director to implement town and state personnel policies.
Attends monthly Trustee meetings.
Assists Director with library related reports and statistics.
Supports the library by having staff participate at town events (ex. Memorial Day
Parade, Centredale Village Festival, Fall PTO Festival, etc.).
Participates in the creation of meaningful programs for all demographics.
Coordinates and runs department meetings as necessary.
Other duties as required.
