Job Description

Are you a library professional who is passionate about developing people, strengthening communities, and advancing the mission of public libraries?

The Garfield County Public Library District (District) is seeking an emotionally intelligent and collaborative Branch Manager to lead the Glenwood Springs Branch Library, the busiest branch in our six-branch library system. This role is ideal for an experienced librarian who is ready to combine professional library expertise with strategic leadership, staff development, and community engagement.

As Branch Manager, you will oversee all branch operations while fostering a culture of trust, accountability, inclusion, and excellent public service. You will lead and mentor a talented team, support professional growth, guide the delivery of innovative library services, and ensure the branch remains responsive to the evolving needs of the community.

Beyond the walls of the library, you will serve as a visible ambassador for the District, cultivating partnerships with local organizations, schools, businesses, government agencies, and community groups. Through these relationships, you will help expand the library's impact and strengthen its role as a trusted community resource.

The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in librarianship, a commitment to intellectual freedom, equitable access, a commitment to staff and patron safety, excellent operational and organizational skills, and the emotional intelligence needed to build and support high-performing teams and navigate complex situations with empathy and professionalism.

Salary and Benefits:

Salary range - actual placement dependent on experience and qualifications:

  • Hiring salary range (MLIS): $77,568 - $85,519; full salary range: $77,568 – $98,999;
  • Hiring salary range (non-MLIS): $72,030 - $79,413; full salary range: $72,030 – $91,930;

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Relevant bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of four (4) years of education and experience, and;
  • Minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible library experience, of which at least two (2) years should be in a lead, supervisory, or management capacity.

Additionally, the following is preferred:

  • Master of Library Science degree (MLS), Master of Library Information Science (MLIS), or other relevant master's degree.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Plans, manages, and oversees the daily functions, operations, and activities including all aspects of public library services for the Glenwood Springs Branch, including circulation, collection development, readers' advisory and reference services, events, programming, outreach, resource sharing, and facilities oversight. Collaborates with the centralized collection development team.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and priorities for the Glenwood Springs Branch; recommends within District policy, appropriate service and staffing levels; recommends and administers policies and procedures.

The Community
