This is a professional part-time position requiring an MLS degree from an ALA accredited university. The Reference Librarian is responsible to the Library Director and will assist with reference questions and programming for adults and seniors.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing reference and adult readers’ advisory services
- Submitting ILL requests
- Recommending adult titles to the Director for purchase
- Planning and presenting programs on reference resources
- Planning and presenting adult educational programs
- Assisting with print and electronic reference resources
- Providing technology assistance
- Designing and staging displays to promote materials and programs
- Represents the Library at appropriate State and Regional meetings
- Keeping statistics for the Library Director and the Office of Library and Information Services Annual Report
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
· Awareness of current trends in reference and adult services
· Excellent customer service skills
· Able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
· Able to interact effectively with the staff and patrons
· Working knowledge of computer applications (not limited to Microsoft Suite and Canva)
Minimum qualifications:
- MLS from an ALA accredited university
- Experience with KOHA and Aspen
- At least two years of experience working in reference
- Able to work 1 night per week and the occasional Saturday
- Good work ethic: punctuality in reporting for work, organizational skills, thoroughness in work completion, attention to detail, and initiative.
- Usual office working conditions. Potential minimal exposure to noise, dust, inclement weather, temperature fluctuations.
- Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, and talk for potentially long periods of time. This includes using a computer monitor, monitor(s), keyboard, and mouse to complete many of the daily tasks as well as usual office equipment. Some lifting may be required as well.
