Purpose of Position:
Plans, coordinates, schedules, promotes and oversees a variety of youth programming and events at the library including, but not limited to, preschool story hour, tween and teen outreach programs, Summer Reading Program, Summer Food Service Program, movie nights, informational presentations, craft classes, author talks and community outreach.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Also includes all duties of the Library Clerk Assistant Position.
· Recruits, schedules, promotes and hosts culturally enriching, entertaining, educational and interesting programs at the library. This includes, but is not limited to guest speakers, demonstrations/presentations, hobby enthusiasts, authors, movie screenings, discussion groups and various local interest topics.
· Designs or oversees promotional information for programs, including but not limited to press releases, flyers, website and social media venues.
· Maintains accurate statistics of attendance at programs.
· Attend local events as a representative of the library to support local businesses and organizations to create a positive, familiar working relationship with the surrounding community.
· Oversee the design and display of bulletin board displays and room decorations in the juvenile and young adult areas.
· Conducts library tours to school age groups.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
· Performs circulation desk duties; checks books and materials in and out, issues library cards and registers new borrowers, reserves books and materials for patrons, opens and closes the library when necessary, collects fee payments, renews materials both in person and over the telephone, explains library procedures and policies, checks in courier items, assists patrons with faxing, copying and laminating services.
· Assists patrons in locating materials and information.
· Shelves library materials and maintains the order of the collections to facilitate public access to resources.
· Reads shelves and returns misplaced items to their appropriate spot.
· Pulls materials needing mending.
· Assists with the weeding of the collection.
· Receives and processes Inter-Library Loan and borrowing requests from patrons and other libraries.
· Assists patrons with computer and internet access.
· Maintains patron count and reference statistics when required.
· Ability to multitask.
· Must have excellent customer service skills.
· Able to work independently and cooperatively
· Must have and display time management.
· Assist with fundraisers as needed.
· Maintains juvenile and young adult bulletin boards
· Perform clerical duties when necessary.
· General cleaning and daily maintenance of the building.
· Assist with Annual Inventory.
